The President of the United States
The President of the United States, who is now Donald Trump, is the Commander-in-Chief. President Donald Trump has made many military actions that have either helped or hurt Americans.
The rivalry between ISIS and Al-Qaeda
The first strategic issue has been the rivalry between ISIS and Al-Qaeda. President Trump oversaw bombings in Libya and Syria almost immediately after taking office. About 200 al-Qaeda and ISIS members were killed in the attacks. The president's goal was to send a message to militants who posed a threat to Americans that he would not accept their actions. After the effects of the September 11 attacks in which almost 3,000 died, this action by the president is a favorable one to the Americans. However, it may turn out to be unfavorable if the terrorists decide to retaliate and attack the Americans. Hence the president needs to ensure that his actions do not provoke such revenge.
The nuclear activities of North Korea
The second decision has been regarding the nuclear activities of North Korea under the leadership of President Kim Jong-un. The long-range nuclear tests which have been ongoing at North Korea pose a threat not only to the US but to the world at large. Hence, President Trump has continually opposed these actions. He has unsuccessfully used threats and sanctions against the state of North Korea. The actions of the US president are favorable to Americans and the world.
The relationship between America and Russia
Thirdly, the other political challenge has been regarding the relationship between America and Russia. Russia has had an estranged relationship with the US for such a long time. President Donald Trump's decision to ally with Russia's President Putin surprised Americans. The first unfavorable outcome of this alliance was the interference of the elections by Russia. It is not clear what Americans should expect in the future.Hence, the political challenges have been concerning terrorist attacks, North Korea's nuclear weapons, and the Russian alliance with America's president.
