Evolution Leadership

Leadership Evolution

Leadership at the corporate level has evolved over time. There has been a noticeable shift from what was previously autocratic leadership to the current directive leadership. According to a study conducted by the Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL), 83 percent of all executives polled agreed that the notion of leadership has changed and evolved through the years. The evolution of leadership can be traced to changes in the state of technology as well as changes in people's attitudes. Many leaders at the different organization have been forced to adapt to the changes so as to facilitate the best outcome for their organizations (Derungs, 2014).

The workplace has drastically changed and has been accompanied by both opportunities and also challenges. Leadership has moved away from the previous environment of team-ness to a present environment that focuses on an individual's contribution. The current form of leadership, work is still being achieved in teams, but the teams that have been selected will consist of unique people who collaborate to make sure that an assignment is completed. In this situation, the energy comes from the individual people rather than the influence of external leaders.

Shift in Workers Attitude

Leadership has been forced to take a different turn because of the shift in workers attitude; the majority of employees are Generation X (the people in their early thirties and twenties). This category of workers is quite self-motivated and independent than their predecessors. These categories of people want a work environment where they are centered on self-leadership, have more power and are in control. The highest productivity is portrayed by these individuals if they have resources required, they have knowledge of the required results, and they are left all alone to come up with the results (Derungs, 2014). Generation x indeed have a unique attribute because they are irritated by a supervisory form of leadership.
