The Family's Village
The family's village is located on the outskirts of the city. The town's industrial district is located next to the village. Between the industrial district and the community, there is a river. The companies dump their trash into the river, which supplies water to the majority of the city's residents. The water is contaminated with germs and heavy molecules, posing a risk to the community's health.
Poor Housing Conditions
A few people own houses and rent them out to renters. These were erected a long time ago and have had little or no maintenance. When it rains, there are leaking roofs that drain into houses. Community members are individualistic where everyone is only concerned with making themselves better and not others. As a result of their poor waste disposal of waste in the community that is risky for contacting communicable and vector-borne disease.
Lack of Recreational Activities
There are very few public places and support for people to involve in recreational activities leading to many youths engaging in criminal activities. Drug abuse is prevalent among the teenagers despite policies that bar individuals from using such drugs. There are no large stores for people to purchase goods from due to the high crime rate. As a result, the community has no access to a variety of healthy food supply. Transport into and out of the town to the neighboring city is a problem due to the lousy terrain that is a danger to vehicles. There are steep hills that are a challenge for car users to use the road for transport means.
Limited Social and Health Services
Within the community, social and health services are limited for the people to utilize them. There are few healthcare facilities with less equipment and personnel; therefore, the needs of the sick people are not adequately addressed. Schools are present but enough as compared to the population of the community. Most of the people found on streets are salespeople and women selling fruits and vegetables. The roads also have street families who are begging for food on a daily basis. Security services are limited in the community compared to the population and rate of crime. There is only one police post serving the city which only intervenes when there is a problem. Police are never seen on streets patrolling to ensure that people are safe in their business and activities.
Diverse Ethnic Groups
The community is made of different ethnic groups. Majority dwellers in this town are African American and Caucasians. Everybody lives at a place where they can afford to rent or buy therefore no one chooses their neighbors with racial or ethnic preference. The kind of food and other times traded in is relatively similar at every corner of the community. A common language is used for communication both in business and social life. Everybody in the community speaks English as the first language.
Different Religious Groups
Majority of the residents are Christians. Within the Christians, are different dominations; Catholic, Protestants and Adventist. These three religious groups have different opinions concerning health practices namely; family planning and child vaccination which significantly affect the families around depending on their religious preference. Some churches have schools that are funded and operated under their names and principles.
Social and Economic Status
There exist different social and economic status in the community. Housing facilities are the first indicator economic classes of different families. Some families live in rental houses while others live in their permanent homes. Also, some families take their children to the high class private school outside the community while the rest of the children study in the overcrowded public schools in the district. Some individuals have permanent jobs in the city while others are manual workers at constructions sites and industries in the neighbourhood. Drug abuse and alcoholism are common among the youths and young adults specifically the males in the society. Teenage smoking is also present. These activities predispose them to adverse health outcomes.
