Employee life cycle

An Employee's Life Cycle

Employees that are capable and effective are necessary for every firm to ensure productivity and smooth operations. It can be difficult to keep productive individuals in a company, as every organization with an HR team is aware. It can be even more difficult to keep excellent employees than to find and train new ones. Therefore, from the time of hiring to the point of separation, management of the business should cherish each employee's life at work. In this study, we'll talk about the fundamental employee life cycle in any company.

Preparation

To begin with, an employee goes through the stage of preparation. At this stage, the employee had already attended an interview conducted by the management team of the organization. As such, the HR team sends the individual an employment letter to report to work. During the reporting day, the employee is familiarized with the procedures and policies of the company.

Orientation

Secondly, the employee goes through the orientation stage. At this stage, the employee is taken deeper into the activities of the organization. The employee gets to meet with other colleagues of the company. The individual is introduced to the culture of the work place. At this point, the employee gets an opportunity to engage in a few of the company’s activities. The responsibilities of the employee also begin at this stage.

Integration

The other stage is the integration stage. The employee is expected to have known all the activities of the company since they are not new to their responsibilities anymore. The employee could still be in the probation period of proving their competency but they are expected to carry out the allocated activities efficiently. The company also ensures that there is smooth transition of responsibilities from preceding employee to the new employee in a case where there is a promotion in the position of employment. The company expects the employee to perform.

Engagement

The engagement stage is the fourth stage in the life of an employee in the workplace. The employee has quite an experience in the position they are holding in the company at this point. They are able to perform their duties as expected in line with ensuring that the goals and objectives of the company are achieved. The company has also set a target of their productivity and so has the employee. The employee is thereby eager to meet these expectations.

Follow-up

The fifth stage is the follow-up stage. At this level, the employee is deep rooted in the activities of the company. The company aims at measuring and monitoring the progress of the employee with regards to their ability and capability to take the company to a higher level. The company measures the employees efficiency in relation to the on-boarding process of the employee. More so, the company comes up with an action plan depending on the feedback given which is associated with the individual’s performance based on the effectiveness of the on-boarding process.

Separation

Lastly, there is the separation process. This is the level where the employee is planning to leave the company for better opportunities. The employee has gained experience and sharpened their skill during the period they worked with the company. Valuable feedback and recommendation is given to the employee. Fare-well formalities are also prepared by the organization in order to ensure a meaningful departure for the employee.

In a nutshell, the process of employee recruitment, retaining, and departure defines the life cycle of an employee in any given organization. There are generally a number of stages depending on the period in which an employee works in a company. There is the preparation, orientation, integration, engagement, follow-up, and separation stage.
