Diversity in the Workplace

Organizations and Diversity Management

Organizations have the responsibility and are legally entitled not to discriminate against the employees. The organizations should also implement ways in which they can discourage discrimination, bullying, and harassment in the workplace. The business case ascertains that cultural diversity has benefits such as increased revenue, reduced employee turnover among others. On the other hand, the moral case is about equity in the workplace. All employees should have equal opportunities in an organization despite their race, gender, religion, and culture, and what is right should be considered. Diversity management has drawn a lot of attention in almost all organizations as some go form the business case and or moral case. Even though the two are different, there are some linkages associated with them.

Attracting and Retaining Top Talent

Attracting and retaining top talent is one of the issues most organizations face. Searching for the perfect talent is a challenge, and organizations use different methods. Talents are widely distributed in society, thus "companies would be foolish to restrict their search for talent to just one subset of society" (Harwitch, 2011). What should be highly considered is the company's core value. For instance, "If a business truly values diversity, particularly cultural diversity, in the same way that it values safety, for example, it will actively pursue a culture of inclusion through the systems, policies, and process that are set in place to support that value" (Parkes and Abdel-Magied, 2017). Furthermore, it will influence an inclusive workforce that respects and recognizes the contribution of individual differences in the workplace (Kramar, 2012). Therefore, teamwork will be promoted, and there will be an increase in productivity, consequently resulting in benefits such as reduced employee turnover and an increase in revenues.
