A recent study on sustainable travel
A recent study by AIG Travel found that the majority of travelers exercise sustainability at home. The travelers also believe that the tourism sector could do more to help them travel sustainably by providing access to and information about available sustainable travel options. The majority of study participants were committed to sustainable practices and believed that travelers should do the same in order to preserve travel locations for future generations. They were of the opinion that engaging in sustainable travel practices was for anyone. However, most travelers did not know how they could practice the same. They also thought that passengers per se could play a huge role in encouraging other travelers to adopt travel practices that are conscious of the environment (PR Newswire).
The impact of travel agents and firms
Additionally, the report found that travel agents and firms that issue education on how to travel sustainably and whose travel products are conscious of the environment may attract more customer loyalty than those who do not. The same respondents are also more likely to recommend the products from the firm to their family and friends. Most respondents thought that the travel industry had the most bearing when it came to encouraging travel practices, ahead of the national and local governments.
Significance of the report
The above report is significant because it provides information that could help the players in the travel industry gain a competitive advantage over their rivals. The report also points to the importance regular market research to uncover emerging issues. By staying ahead of the curve regarding trends in the market, a firm can maintain its competitive advantage.
