When a company is growing, the employer must take certain factors into account. Employers must give careful thought to the employment and recruitment of personnel since as a company grows, more people are required. When hiring staff, it's important to take time and money into account. Employers should make sure they take the hiring process seriously if they want to hire the best candidates available to avoid wasting time and money (Davidson et al., 2017). Considering the case study, the owner and the supervisor did not treat the hiring procedure seriously. Before hiring someone, an employer should assess their financial situation to determine how many people they can support comfortably.
In this case, the management of Stars Hollow Hat Company failed since both the owner and supervisor did not analyze the finances first to tell the number of employees they wanted. The supervisor ended up hiring six people while the owner wanted less than three employees. Employers also need to consider what they need. If the employers are confident that their current finances can support more employees, then they need to know what kind of people they need to hire. The employer needs to ensure that they only hire skillful people who will ensure the company grows more (Napier, 2006). Having looked at the finances and the person needed for the job, the employer needs to start looking out for the candidates and ensure the best candidate is selected. The hiring team should ensure that before advertising for the job, they should ask around for recommendations from friends and business partners (Napier, 2006). Friends and business partners cannot recommend people who cannot perform well in most cases.
In this case, the supervisor did not consider the organizations current financial status and the number of people who would be selected for the job. The supervisor did not involve even the employer in the hiring process. The supervisor failed since she did not ask for advice from other people as well and ended up hiring the wrong kind of people. She considered her instincts and hired people she felt would work well without considering their skills. The company needed people with sales skills, and she ended up hiring people who were not skillful. The federal laws mandate that employees should be selected based on the skills, and qualifications meaning that only those who meet the job specifications need to be hired (Ahmad, 2007). Interviews need to be carried out honestly, and it is a crime to disclose personal information. In this case, the supervisor went against the law since they discussed personal affairs with some interviewees.
The supervisor failed the company since she took the recruitment process lightly. However, there are some recommendations on how she would have ensured the selection process ended successfully. First, she should have considered the current financial condition of the company. Secondly, she should have discussed the hiring plans with other employees and form a recruitment team. Thirdly the team needs to come up with the number of employees needed and specific responsibilities the hired personnel need to carry out. Also, the selection team needs to ensure that during the call out for interviews, only those who whose skills match the specifications of the job are selected. It is against the law to dismiss the best candidates and ask interviewees to disclose personal information. It would be unfortunate to the company if they ended up hiring six people while the finances can only support less than three people. To avoid such mistakes, employers should ensure that they take the hiring process seriously.
