The Quest of the Hobbit
Furthermore, the Hobbit follows the quest of home living hobbit Bilbo Baggins to win a share of the treasure while guarded by some of his accomplices the likes of Smaug the dragon who also acted as a guard to Bilbo (Tolkien 10). Further, the Hobbit book is set in between the commencement of territory of men as well as a faerie. Bilbo came from a light-hearted rural environment in remote areas into a more ominous zone located on the hill. Moreover, Bilbo enjoys his life there in the hills as a well to do the hobbit. He lived in a thatched house with one door painted green. His door was one of the unique ones as it was designed to open on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel. Additionally, the house was exceptional from the rest as it had been carpeted with tiles.
The Life of Bilbo Baggins
Moreover, since the hobbit was fond of visitors he kept his room clean in that it had even pegged to hang their caps and jackets when they visited. The room had no smoke with paneled wall and was comfortable to dine in. Further, he entertained more visitors as he could eat a lot and have tea with his friends. More so, associates that were chain smokers were his great fans since Bilbo enjoyed to smoke rings into the air. Bilbo as a man of people, he often invited friends over for a cup of tea (Chance 16). This time he invites one of the great friends Gandalf who is well known for his wizards. The life that Bilbo lives is almost similar to that of his friend Gandalf since both seem to live an exciting and adventurous life.
Meeting the Unexpected
In addition, as Bilbo was expecting Gandalf to show up at tea time, he unexpectedly gets greeted by a dwarf. The dwarf scares and confuses Bilbo with its unique features with bright eyes in addition, dressed in a blue beard. However, Bilbo does not hesitate to invite the dwarf over to his house. Besides, Bilbo gains a new level of the prime of life, proficiency as well as wisdom by accepting the scandalous idealistic and daring flanks of his nature as well as relating his wits and common intellects (Chance 26). Conversely, as Bilbo was waiting for Gandalf to arrive thirteen other dwarfs arrives and this makes Bilbo even more confused. Gandalf arrives later and explains to his friend that the visitors are Thorin and the company.
The Refusal of the Call
Nevertheless, while Bilbo and visitors are around the table, the dwarfs try to explain to the master of the house about the escapade in detail of which Gandalf is also a participant. Gandalf tries to persuade and convince Bilbo to join them for adventure but Bilbo refuses to say that they know too well that they are plain quiet and that they have no use for adventures.in a nutshell, the adventure is about" the refusal of the call meets with a mentor crossing the threshold tests. Moreover, he gains friends, makes happenstances with rivalries. The methodology into the warm dungeon, the affliction, the recompense, the road back, the revivification, coming back with Elixir' (Tolkien 10).
Gandalf's Influence
To make sure that Gandalf, Thorin, and the company understand why they should not go for the adventure, Bilbo exerts nastier disturbing uncomfortable things saying that the adventure will make them late for dinner. More so, the adventure has no importance at the moment and that there cannot be seen any good thing in them since he is not thrilled to go. He shudders at the Thorin speaking clearly "may never return". Bilbo gets more nervous in addition, he goes down on his knees on a mat trembling, in addition, saying repeatedly "struck by lightning!" (Tolkien 21). Concisely, Bilbo main mentor was Gandalf. Still, Gandalf knew very well that Bilbo was the right man for the role.
Thorin's View
Contrary, Thorin and the company viewed him as unfit for the position due to his fear of returning to the dungeon (hobbit hole) after the Thorin explained the adventure to him. Thorin termed Bilbo as acting as a child. Thorin and the dwarves viewed Bilbo as incapable as well as unfit to act as a criminal. To Bilbo defense, Gandalf stood up for him and requested the dwarves to shut up and have no more arguments. For sure Gandalf was a mentor to Mr. Baggins since he had crowned him for the position. Moreover, Gandalf insisted to Thorin and the company that Bilbo is and was to act as a burglar. Bilbo was praised for he had a lot that the dwarves didn't have and that he was a good deal more than he has known about himself.
The Adventurous Journey Begins
Nevertheless, Gandalf praised Mr. Baggins only to disapprove Thorin and the dwarfs. The room was getting darker, Gandalf requested Mr. Baggins to light the room. Bilbo overheard "Gloin" speaking negatively about him. Only to prove to the dwarves that he was fierce, he opened the door and confronted them. Bilbo fiercely demanded to know what the dwarves were saying. On the contrary, he tried to explain why he did not hear clearly saying that the door had just been painted a week ago. Enthusiastically, Bilbo asked the dwarves to tell him what they wanted him to do as a burglar and he would try. Moreover, in Bilbo's trials even if he was to walk from east to east as well as fight the ruthless warms in the desert he was ready. Bilbo said all this only to prove to the dwarves that he was more than willing and ready for the task.
A Narrow Escape and a Change of Heart
Besides, Bilbo was so frustrated to an extent that he went to bed without having his meals after he overheard what the dwarves were saying. The words were just to bitter for him to withstand. The next morning Bilbo saw a letter at his doorstep, but when he was about to read it, Gandalf, his mentor came along and told him that the dwarves are waiting for him. Bilbo agreed to go for the adventure. On the other hand, at the field, Bilbo would meet some of the tests, friends as well as enemies from the novel. Some of the allies that were there would include "Elrond, Beorn as well as the eagles". The play would not do well without enemies such as "the trolls, goblins, wargs, spiders and the well-known Smaug" (Tolkien 15).
Allies and Enemies
Likewise, Elrond Beorn and the eagle were of great help to Thorin and company. This is because Elrond and Beorn had provided Thorin with some of the beneficial advice, Foodstuffs, in addition, a stay at their homes. The eagle would save the crew from enemies while they were up in the trees. Above all, the allies offered transport services to the Carrock. On the other hand, the enemies would try to put tests for Thorin and the company. In this state, Mr. Bagging had to find ways of helping the crew out of the enemies' tests. Bilbo did not disappoint. Mr. Baggins managed to rescue the dwarves' lives from a number of instances. However, Bilbo had to be courageous and be creative while rescuing Thorin and the dwarves since the enemies could not spare them if they were caught.
Bilbo's Bravery
On the contrary, it is hauled over the coals when Thorin and the company were criticizing Bilbo capability, and from this instance, Bilbo is appointed as the one to travel to the tunnel in the mountains while the crew is frightened about the enemies. Bilbo courageously sneaks into the tunnel after wearing his ring. Therefore, while Mr. Baggins was in the tunnel approaching the end of the tunnels he starts to feel warm. Bilbo was astonished to see a sound asleep dragon rested upon a vast heap of pearl. Bilbo slowly picked a cup he saw from the pile of treasures and took the two-handled cup to the dwarves. Upon seeing that, the dwarfs were in reverence. Bilbo after taking his share, he took Gandalf with him to the hill.
The Death of Thorin and Bilbo's Return
On the other hand, before Bilbo and Gandalf had left, they buried Thorin deep beneath the mountain and bard laid the Arkenstone upon his chest. Bilbo seems to be excited about the death of Thorin when he bids farewell on his behalf.MR Baggins bids farewell to his friends, the dwarves on his behalf. Bilbo mocks Thorin that even when he passes by his door, he should not forget to knock and have a cup of tea knowing too well that Thorin is dead. Gandalf and Bilbo ride on the back of the "elven king" until they are at Bilbo "palace" (Tolkien 23) However, during their journey, they had to stay at their allies' homes. Upon arriving at the site of the gnomes they collected the troll's treasures that they had previously buried.
Bilbo's Return to Normal Life
Moreover, after the two collected the treasures and put them in their bags and got into the village in which the two of them were brought up in. Bilbo returns home confidently bold and courageous with a bag of treasures, amazingly, people had already presumed Bilbo dead as met some of his furniture's being auctioned. However, he had to take his own savings to buy back his furniture's. The reason as to why the villagers from his vicinity pronounced him dead was because of the visit of the dwarves as well as the wizards hence they ended up considering him as atypical. Life to Bilbo was getting normal in his hobbit hole. Bilbo spent his treasures in living extravagantly.
An Unexpected Loss and a Final Battle
Surprisingly, the next day when Bilbo woke up he saw that his golden cup was missing. When he was preparing to venture into the mountain to the source for some, he saw a thin and piercing ray of red coming from the Smaug's left eye. But again Smaug was not the thief and he didn't see the thief too. The dragon was on the look of the stolen golden cup of treasures (Tolkien 20). Nonetheless, after Bilbo had conquered his fear of confronting Smaug, he traveled back to the mountains to the dwarves. Consequently, before he had reached his destination he had been knocked out in the five armies' battle. Bilbo sees a man approaching his door and tells him that he is being called by Gandalf.at Gandalf's tent, Bilbo meets Thorin severely wounded.
Bilbo's Farewell with Thorin
Thorin, at this juncture, bids Bilbo farewell as he did when Bilbo thought that he had died. Thorin and Bilbo exchanged words for a while, but Bilbo called for cohesion arguing that the adventure was bitter and even if it was to end not with his treasures. However, Thorin too responded that if more of them valued food and merriment as well as songs above squirreled gold it would be a cheerful world. Thorin bided Bilbo farewell. Bilbo later received his huge share of the treasurers. According to Nicholas and Tyler Wilson, "there is no resurrection that occurs after the road back" (Tolkien 90) as one of the examples that Bilbo underwent from the battle of five armies he still managed to come back to himself after a long unconsciousness.
The Final Chapter
On the contrary, While Bilbo was crying for the eagles help a stone fell from above and hit him really bad at his helm. Bilbo fell with a crash, but when he sat up he discovered he was all alone sitting on the flat stones of the raven hill. Bilbo's head was achy, and all he could see was dead elves, dwarves removing the wall and a camp from a far distance. Moreover, a man came calling Bilbo from where he was sitting and claimed that he had been called for and he took him to a camp. On the other hand, the two found Gandalf waiting for them outside a tent. Gandalf was happy to see his old friend was still alive.
