Behavioral Management Plan

Behavioral management in the classroom is an important component in a formative setting since it ensures that the learners are in a conducive learning environment. Behavioral management places less emphasis on punishment for behavioral disruptions. Instead, it attempts to create the tone in the classroom while also preventing behavioral interruptions through the use of inclusive and fun-filled techniques. This also effectively provides inclusion for all learners in order to meet all of the kids' learning demands. Having a behavioral management strategy in place ensures that students have a safe and conducive learning environment. The main objective of this behavioral management plan is to create this kind of environment for all students.

Philosophical Statement

Effective classroom management is very vital for students to attain their learning goals in the classroom.

The goals of this behavioral classroom management plan are:

This student-centered behavioral management plan is made to ensure that students develop an ability to take responsibility for their actions.

This will enable the students to decide their actions because they know what responsible behavior entails.

Regarding discipline, the behavioral management plan is caring, firm, and consistent so as to guarantee an appropriate and positive learning environment for learning to all students.

The discipline standards in this behavioral management plan are tailor made to meet the needs of this agegroup as well as the individual needs of the students in the class.

It also encourages the members of the class to get to know each other and interact to promote meaningful and positive discussions and interactions.

This is essential for encouraging all students to participate in class activities thus meeting the individual learning needs of the students.

It also encourages them to learn from each other.

The behavioral management plan follows the five stages of group development of a Classroom community. These are:

Beginning stages

Establishment of rules and class norms

Identification and resolution of conflicts

Maintenance of Productivity

Disbandment Closure and Transitioning

Beginning Stage

Personal interactions between the learners and the teacher are of key importance in behavioral management in a classroom. These interactions promote an environment where students feel welcome and at home, thus establishing trust and compassion for each other. This feeling of acceptance encourages all the students to participate in the class thus meeting their learning needs.

The class environment has to be safe and welcome to the students so as to assure the students of the right learning conditions. This environment encourages them to accept each other and build trust within the class for a collaborative and inclusive classroom.

Our classroom at Lowell is filled with numerous wall hangings of that are vibrantly colored in between massive windows that let in natural light.

The floors are also carpeted to make the room comfortable and welcoming for the students.

The students in the class face in a circle of tables to encourage interactions and discussions amongst them and with their immediate environment. The very naught students that are wild are strategically placed far from each other but near the teacher so they do not disrupt learning for the other students.

Culturally responsive pedagogy is achieved through the students’ acceptance of each other to prevent inability to meet student’s learning goals as a result of the differences in their backgrounds. The population of 20 understands that there are students who don’t speak English but are forced not to make fun of the new students.

Classroom Rules

The main objective of implementing rules in the classroom is to ensure that learning takes place within the class and every student’s learning needs are effectively met. I also seek to ensure that discipline and respect are maintained in the classroom. These class rules only enforce on discipline, responsibility, and meeting the student’s learning needs.

The students will be involved in the making of the rules and the negotiations of the the privileges that will be taken away when rules are consistently broken to ensure they are responsible for their decisions.

Their participation in the making of rules will push students to obey the rules they were involved in setting and they will be more accepting of their consequences.

The rules also have to be sensitive to the different backgrounds that the students are from so that no students feel that the rules are unfair to them.

This will encourage fairness within the student community such that no students are branded a certain way or are judged according to their academic or social performance. This is because there are 3 boys who don’t speak English as fluently as the rest of the students.

This is also necessary for the prevention of behavioral problems that results from the feeling of exclusion from the classroom community.

The rules of the classroom are expected to accept the unique differences of the students in the class, relate, like, and respect the students.

The consequences of these class rules will guarantee an inclusive classroom where the learning needs or all students are met regardless of their differences.

The additional rules I would like to implement in this rule other than the school rules and regulations is o take time every month to look at the progress of the student and the feedback being given to both the administration and the parents of the students. This will increase the school administration’s and parents’ involvement in the academic performance of the students. This will also guarantee the students and parents consistency in participation.

Positive Reinforcement

The class rules focus on positive reinforcement of the behavior of students through focusing on the good attitudes and behaviors of the students in the classroom.

Students fill in postcards at the beginning of every semester with their home addresses through which the student’s positive feedback is sent to their parents regularly. This is important for acknowledge good behavior and encourage this kind of behavior and academic performance.

All students get the post cards to appreciate the student’s participation in class as well as to involve the parent’s in the student’s academic life.

The class will also use stickers and stars to appreciate the student’s positive performance.

The stickers and star rewards in this class will not be used as they tend to discourage those who hardly get these rewards and the performers who drop slightly in their performance. This system will encourage students that it is okay to make mistakes and that anyone can become what they set their mind to.

Identification and Resolution of Conflicts

Due to the foundation of this behavior management plan on the student’s comprehension of the idea of responsibility, the plan uses a more proactive approach for conflict resolution than a reactive one.

Conflicts in the class will be resolved following the rules that the students themselves helped to come up with.

The role of the teacher in conflict is to show each party where they went wrong or when they can compromise to resolve the conflict

Each student is entitled to tell the teacher on any conflicts within the classroom to ensure a collaborative and inclusive environment in the classroom.

Maintenance of Productivity

The teacher ensures that the classroom maintains consistency in the learning procedure through always writing the agenda of the class on the boar either as picture or in words.

The classroom learning goals are maintained through the collaborative and inclusive nature of the class, such that the teacher is able to monitor the student’s involvement in the class.

Assignments and homework are given to the student to ensure they try and solve some school related problems at home.

Interactive notebooks are also used by the students so that they stay engaged in the student centered experiences both at school and at home. We encourage students to use one notebook for everything so they keep the studying material in one place.

Creativity and design are the most useful means of instructional strategies and lesson design. The student uses their creativity to understand the different concepts being taught in class. They also personalize these concepts making it impossible for them to forge the things they learnt in class.

At the end of every class, the lesson will end with an important question that the class was about as a summary of all the concepts that were taught. The reiteration of the important points in the class will ensure that the ides learnt stick in the students mind until they understand.

Disbandment, Closure and Transitioning

Accomplishments in the class are celebrated through the use of hand claps for students who actively participate in class.

Behavioral management will be effective in ensuring that the learning environment in the classroom is inclusive and collaborative such as both the students and the teacher actively participate to meet the learning needs of the students. A behavioral management plan will encourage a safe participation and the creation of a conducive environment. It also creates a good relationship and rapport between the members of the classroom community encouraging successful development of the students. When combined with an engaging curriculum, this conducive learning environment from the implementation of a behavioral management plan will limit behavioral interruptions in the class.
