A person can learn necessary employment knowledge and skills through apprenticeship, according to the ""United States Department of Labor"" (n.d.). Apprenticeship includes both a paid work component and an instructional or educational component.
I want to complete my apprenticeship as a financial consultant in the finance department at Fintech Limited. The apprentice is expected to gain both technical and fundamental abilities during this time that will be crucial to my career development (""United States Department of Labour"", n.d.). Specifically, the particular skills which the apprentice will acquire during the apprenticeship period including but not limited to developing needed skills in capital budgeting techniques, financial analysis techniques, financial reporting, financial forecasting, modeling, cash management, financial planning and credit handling. In addition to helping apprentice up his/ her necessary skills through observation of what my trainer is doing, he/she will also be in a position to amplify my soft skills.
The apprentice will also be in a position to learn how to use knowledge modules and learning software which is related to the field that is essential in project management work. Apart from core skills, the apprentice will also gain practice techniques as he or she is intended to be working on most of the active projects in the context of assisting the consultants. This will inform me on how to handle clients and the overall interaction in the corporate environment. In the end, the apprentice will be subject to give a presentation of gained skills during the period, and the feedback process shall be directly given to the apprentice by the guiding manager ("United States Department of Labour", n.d.).
Additionally, a concurrent perpetual informal feedback will also be used. By the end, a detailed feedback which is formally written encompassing all areas tackled will be given. By approximation, the apprentice shall be required to work for at least 25 hours weekly which can be flexible upon discussion. To be successful, the entire program will last for four months.
According to the "United States Department of Labour" (n.d.), apprenticeship is associated with numerous benefits which include: encouraging face to face mentorship which enhances understanding of the person being trained. From an exposure perspective, it offers the person with one of the fantastic leeways to link with the external corporate world regarding job expectations. Besides, it gives the apprentice the opportunity to connect the theoretical work learned in class to real world problems and how to use the knowledge gained in solving the situation. An apprentice is also attached to expertise with knowledge and experience in the given fields and thus contributing significantly to their learning in a particular area due to one on one consultation. It enhances the learning process of the trainees as it helps them to learn by "doing" things ("United States Department of Labour", n.d.).
Apprenticeship programs are dysfunctional, or they are associated with many disadvantages ("United States Department of Labour", n.d.). For instance, the program in most in most companies are ill-defined and implemented as some companies view it as an additional expense. Secondly, the compensation given for the program is usually very little making it hard for the trimness to cope up with life. Thirdly, it saddening to learn that the federal government has set aside money for companies to use in financing the program but many organizations are unaware of this. Trainees are subjected to limited benefits offered to them.
