Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant theories and concepts to support your answer)

Resilience is vital core skill to me because in the modern times, I have encountered many challenges, adversity, tragedy, problems in school and work and the ability for me to acquire this ineffable quality that allows me to have setback and to be knocked down by challenges in my daily life and come back stronger than ever has enable me to succeed and overcome many obstacles and down fall I have faced. The reason for selecting this skill to reflect on is because everyone has resilience but how well and how much individuals put it to good use really determines their come back or how well they adapt to the events in their lives. I have self-determination and the importance to stay focused. For example in self-determination theory, there exist a link in the human motivation, optimal functioning and personality. In addition, there are intrinsic and extrinsic types of motivation. Majority of individual have extrinsic motivation, which is motivation that is driven by external sources such as employee evaluation, admiration and respect of other, and grading systems (Whetten " Cameron 2015) Conversely, for myself unlike other people, I possess intrinsic motivation, which is motivation that comes from within.  This intrinsic motivation such as interest, personal sense of morality and core values enables me to be more resilient when I encounter challenges.

Reflect on your current competence regarding this skill. How did you assess your competence? (use your self-assessment findings, feedback from peers and your tutor, plus your own reflections on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to answer this question)

This skill is important to me because when it is personal to me, I find myself absorbed in the work that needs to be done regardless of outside factors. My competence in resilience has been evident in how I have solely managed to come back from the challenges and setbacks I have encountered in life. For example, a year ago, I became ill for three weeks and this made me miss most of my classes, which also resulted to bad grades. I remained optimistic and improvised my studying methods where I requested one of my classmate to update and assist me with classroom notes and assignments in order for me to catch up with my studies. Since I was determined to bounce back and get good grade, this really motivated me to study hard and when I recovered it was already time for exams. I did the exams and managed to get an A in my class (Routledge " Carmichael 2007). Moreover, my peers describe me as a person that have strongly held values and beliefs, optimistic and that sometimes I disengage from outside activities until I achieve what I originally set out to do and this can sometimes make me feel under valued

Can you identify any contradictions from your analysis above? For example, is there a match between how you see yourself and how others see you, or not?

I believe there is a match in how others see me and how I see myself because what they say about me is a reflection of who I am. I mostly focus in the brighter side of any obstacle that comes my way and I believe I have strongly held values because I do not give up easily and I have a tendency to improvise and stay focussed so that I can achieve my set goals. Nevertheless, I lose focus once interrupted.
