The management should be aware that other payment practices, such as overtime rates for all employees, will change as a result of the new minimum wage rise. (Quackenbush, 2017). This gives workers an additional advantage.
The business will face severe fines and penalties if it fails to comply with minimum wage and hour laws. However, if the commissioner of labor rules in favor of the employer and finds that they did not pay the new minimum wage, they must post a bond equivalent to the minimum wage that excludes the penalties and fines that must be paid. (Chamber, 2016). All employees of Qualcomm company will receive the way forward form the Human Resource department on how they will post their new minimum wage order (MW-2017). According to Quackenbush (2017), the HR is directed to assess the cost of payroll, reclassify the workers accordingly and communicate the changes to the employees. They are also advised to seek professional help if necessary
Companies and business with more than 26 employees are obligated to pay a minimum wage of $10.50 per hour. However, companies or businesses having 25 employees or less should implement the increase by 2018 (Chamber, 2016). However, the new legislation permits an increase of minimum wage in the future depending on the Consumer Price Index.
