George Orwell was taken to a convent school when he was at the age of five his mother wanted him to school in a public school, but the family had financial issues and could not afford fees so he needed to get a scholarship. His uncle who was a golf player helped him get one at St Cyprian School since he knew its headmaster who was also a golf player in Royal Eastbourne golf club. George Orwell hated the school but recognized that he was from a poor family and this made him write an essay ‘' Such, Such Were the Joys'', which was based in his experiences there. At St Cyprian is where he first met Cyril Connolly who was a writer and later became an editor of Horizon and he was the one who published George's essays. Orwell was determined to be a famous writer since he even neglected his academic studies and majored on producing a college magazine. Due to his poor performance in class Orwell's family considered taking him to imperial police because he could not get another scholarship and he passed his entrance exam.
