the term " securing the blessing of liberty"

The Framers used the word "securing the blessings of liberty" to refer to the right to question or lobby the government if they disagreed with its policies. Any American citizen is entitled to that liberty and freedoms, which are guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. The argument implied that all people were made equal and should be able to seek their happiness (Greenberg, 10). The constitution should be seen as a bond passed on from the first generation of Americans to the present generation, and it can be used by future generations as well. The statement introduces the constitution of America and hints at the freedoms protected by the constitution. In case, the government fails to protect the people, the citizens should do so by fighting for their rights until they are granted.
What Framers Meant by Securing the Blessings of Liberty
The statement meant that each individual citizen was entitled to some freedoms, which were protected under the Bill of Rights. In particular, it is important to note that the framers of this phrase were the founding fathers of America who had fought hard to gain independence. As such, to them gaining freedom was a huge achievement that needed to be protected and safeguarded for them and for future generation to enjoy. The Americans wanted to be guaranteed that the government would not interfere with their freedom of speech, religion, and press. In addition, they wanted to be assured that they will not be subjected to warrantless searches and seizures of their property. In fact, America was established on the grounds of the quest for freedom.
The desire for these rights was rooted in the American colonial experience in broad or general terms. When America was fighting for independence from the British rule, the founding fathers realized that the colonial government denied them basic rights (Greenberg, 34). The Americans mistrusted government power due to earlier experiences with the colonial government that imposed taxes and other conditions without being represented. For instance, every legal document in America such as newspapers and books were taxed. British custom inspectors would enter peoples’ homes ransacking their belongings for any contraband. Americans hated searches without warranty and lack of liberty, which fueled opposition to British rule and establishment of American constitution. It introduced a government whose power was evenly distributed to make and implement liberty, an objective type of freedom.
Relation of Securing the Blessing of Liberty with Government Role
The Framers were concerned with personal liberty and political equality in a democratic country. The American political culture and the need for promoting democracy suggest that government should go a long way in “securing the blessings of liberty. The America’s founding fathers intended to create a popular government that ensured freedom for its people. Democracy enables people to choose their representatives in legislature who in turn create laws that allow citizens to have liberty based on people’s needs and issues affecting them within that period (Greenberg, 37). Democracy implies that people should be able to participate in voting of public officials in fair elections and the majority should make political decisions. In America, democracy entails a system of government in which power belongs to the people through their representatives elected by the majority.
The government support for a democratic nation ensures that every citizen is entitled to participate in decision-making through representatives. Establishing legislation that gives people equal liberty is a way of ensuring that all citizens abide and follow the law. The government enforces the laws created in an effort of “securing the blessings of liberty” for every citizen, which according to the structure set up by the founding fathers, is the responsibility of judicial branch. According to my opinion, the government must enforce the law to ensure that those individuals who fail to respect the Bill of Rights as contained in the constittion complete face the law.
The Political History and Cultural Roots of “Securingthe Blessings of Liberty”
America had lived under the British rule and dreamed of creating own government that would promote liberty for its citizens. The American Revolution and instability experienced in the country was an awakening call to establish a government with a constitution that ensured liberty for all. The British Government always imposed taxes and tough rules on Americans thus they needed to find a way of ensuring self-governance. The British colonies therefore contributed to early experiences of liberty by Americans (Greenberg, 37). Englishmen claimed their rights and liberties while living in America, which were in accordance to European interpretation and charters. The Americans wanted to preserve their liberties from the British Government that oppressed them which led to struggle for independence. However, they needed a document that would protect American interest and promote equality for its people different from that of the colonial power.
Liberty in America can also be associated with American culture of a mix of ethnic, religious, economic, political, and legal inter-relations since they were based on denial of liberty to others. For instance, protestant colonists and wealthy men used to enjoy greater liberty. Women, children, men without property, and minority races could only depend on propertied men as relatives or employees to earn some form of liberty (Greenberg, 37). This had to come to an end which could only be possible through formation of a government composed of three branches namely legislative branch for making laws, an executive for approving the laws and judicial for enforcing and interpreting the law. All the leaders were to be chosen by the people to ensure that liberty of citizens was maintained and implemented to assist avoiding disorder caused by real freedom.
Conclusion
Securing the blessing of liberty is indeed one of the important parts of US constitution permeable. As indicated, it is an objective type of freedom, which allows one to enjoy basic human rights without affecting those of others. Like framers foreseen, it is a better form of freedom that can apply in a civilized society such as America since it ensures that the government treats its subjects equally. I feel that with liberty the people own the government as their voice prevails through their elected leaders. In this regard, the designing and the meaning of this phrase as created by its framers reveal the extent to which they were right when making the US constitution.
