Culture and Understanding
Culture is the tool that is used to measure the way of living of people (Norris 18). Various societies use different cultural values to assess what is right or wrong. Typically, people use their cultural values to judge cultures of other communities. Nevertheless, through close interaction with various members of the society during the community placement, I noted that judging other societies based on their culture reaches a state where people begin discriminating others who have different norms. Learning about the standards of various ethnic groups assist people in comprehending the diversified points of view among the societies and people can eliminate negative sentiments and biases about many societies. Before joining college, I grew fond of my Hebrew friend. I made efforts in learning their cultural values such as their language, how they worship and what is forbidden in their culture. Learning and embracing cultural norms of other people foster peaceful coexistence.
Partnership Organization and Civic Engagement
Partnership organization is an essential tool for conducting civic engagement. For instance, while teaching children, many conflicts erupt and I used to take an interactive way of solving the problem. I would listen to all the parties concerned and try to work out a solution to the problem. By listening and engaging the children in problem-solving, I got a chance to interact with them and build trust which boosted my confidence status. The employers, political leaders among other leaders, should make informed decisions through partnering with the ones they are leading to produce strategies that will modify things that affect the lives of people. Learning how partnership organization affects the society served a significant role in understanding my students and adding value to the outcomes of the lessons.
The Impact of Partnership Association in Civic Engagement
Partnership association in civic engagement is achieving its goals since there is a mass restoration of reconciliation among the people, spiritual growth and maintenance of a healthy self-image. Also, the societies are supporting personal and collaborative power. The community is experiencing an increase in job opportunities and improved housing after encouraging collaborative working through the partnership of the leaders and the public. Society engagement through alliance enhances the establishment of sustainable collaborations and leadership within the society since it is a continuous program.
Social Justice and Community Engagement
The placement in the society has assisted me to comprehend that social justice identifies the engagement of attitudes in the generation of institutional culture. While working with the community, I have learned that social justice is encouraged through respect, care and ensuring the balanced provision of opportunities, resources and services. Being mindful of the effects of ethnicity, social status, sexual inclination, gender and political or religious beliefs enhances a healthy relationship among people.
Overcoming Barriers and Building Skills
While working as a volunteer in the community, I learned that I could be able to avoid barriers such as cultural, language and financial barriers through a simple smile and show people that I care. I also learned that I am a capable team player, patient and slow to anger. I should have used both the learned and unskilled micro-actions to solve issues presented to me during the community placement.
Benefits of Volunteering and Acquired Skills
Volunteering in serving the community and the knowledge acquired from the classroom equipped me with problem-solving skills such as recognizing resources and opportunities that are latent in the society. It also exposes one to work as an agent of encouraging self-help in the community. Also, one is equipped with skills on how to manage resources and to make oral and written reports.
Conclusion
In conclusion, embracing cultural diversity is vital in creating healthy relationships among people. Community placement is a valuable channel that exposes one to new experiences that helps people to develop skills necessary for facilitating social change.
