The Quantum Leap
The Quantum Leap was an exciting dance performance composed by a group of fifty people. The team was structured in such a way that the number of female dancers was equal to that of males. The dance was composed to explore the history of human experience in Australia and highlight the themes of mystery, loneliness, fear, and passion.
Arouse Empathetic Responses
The actors of the exhibition attempted to encourage the audience take a stroll through history which can never evade from the mind. They did so by applying their emotions to the intimate story the dance was telling to arouse empathetic responses from the viewers.
The Dominating Aesthetic: Movement
The most dominating aesthetic during the performance was movement. The dancers made numerous moves in and out of the floor, whereby in several instances they separated, and each of them danced alone to create a sense that they were lonely both physically and emotionally. More so, the rapid movements brought into light the interlude of mystery whereby they explored the spoke of searching.
Engaging the Audience
The performers at times hid from each other or closed their mouth by a hand to create a perception that they were not making any sound. Through employing such aesthetic experiences, the dancers successfully engaged to the whole audience, whereby they could create emotional connections and at the same time express their artistry.
The Critical Aspects of the Play
One of the critical aspects of the play that changed my view of performance was rhythm. During a section entitled eternity, girls walked around the floor in a breathing rhythm creating a perception that their bodies were full of energy. Also, the melodies had a steady flow. When the microphone was placed on the floor they danced with a lot of passion.
Understanding through Cultural Expressions
The two factors made me realize that performance is not just a matter of acting but also there are numerous ways through which actors can connect with the audience. A person from any culture could easily understand the message given by the performance, though it was based on Australian culture of dancers dressing. Both female and male performers had a boonie hat and ugg boots.
The Role of Rehearsals
I learned that rehearsals played a significant role towards enhancing its success. It is a practice that I can apply in different aspects of my life because from the performance I learned that through preparation anything can be achieved. The fundamental relationship between the different types of movements that the dancers made and the actual sound helped in passing the intended message to the audience. By the look of the rest of the audience, it was clear that no one was struggling to get the actual meaning of the dance with physical expressions showing that they were emotionally connected to the story.
My Personal Experience
Personally, I was thrilled by the performance because it enabled me to learn a lot about the history of Australian culture which I have so much interest in due to the fact that I was brought up there. More so, if I was the one to perform the same dance, one of the artistic choices that I would adopt from the actors is the movements. There was a clear rhythm between the sound design and the different moves that the actors made, thereby enabling the audience to easily get the intended message.
Recommendation
Finally, I would advise others to see The Quantum Leap to experience great combination of sound and movement and learn about Australian culture and history in an exciting and engaging way.
