Unemployment in the Philippines
Unemployment is a major issue that influences a nation's politics. The statement about unemployment in the Philippines attracts many political views. The unemployment rate in the Philippines is high because of the unavailability of jobs to be offered to people. The growth of unemployment rate in the Philippines is based on the issue of lack of businesses and investors that could offer reliable jobs for the Filipino people (Resurreccion, 161). This paper seeks to explore the issue of unemployment in the Philippines. The paper contains information from an investigation concerning the issue of unemployment in the Philippines.
The Impact of Power on Unemployment
According to Orwell's idea, power corrupts. This means that those in power in the workplaces tend to use their authority to offer job opportunities to their friends and relatives. Indeed, politicians are against the oppressed, therefore supporting the aspect of "all animals being equal, although others tend to be more equal than others" (Orwell, 1). Consequently, the rate of unemployment continues rising and mostly affecting the Filipinos who do not have the political power to have their cases being heard or for their qualifications to be considered in the workplaces.
Poor Distribution of Job Opportunities
I understand that unemployment in the Philippines is based on the issue of poor distribution of job opportunities to all Filipinos. It is claimed that lack of education is one of the major factors causing the increased rate of unemployment, but there are very many Filipinos with the required qualifications who are not hired (Resurreccion, 161). However, the majority of the Filipinos do not have higher education achievement, therefore making the unemployment rate in the nation to increase. Given that the Philippines is identified to be a literate nation, the Filipinos' qualifications do not meet the in-demand for most of the jobs, given that even the small jobs require people to have a college education. I have experienced the rise in competition in the employment sector; whereby many people have the same qualifications but only a few of them are needed to work in a certain job position. Does people's qualification give them the power to get employment or to earn the salary that is worth? This is a major concern, which I think affects how industries claim to be having insufficient jobs and yet they offer the available job opportunities very cheap.
Discrimination in the Workplace
Out of experience, some people lack jobs because of discrimination in the workplaces; whereby the employers advertise for job positions, but even after the interview process, they hire different individuals. I think this issue has compromised the ability of the majority of Filipinos to get employment. It is clear that the number of employed Filipinos continue increasing from time to time, for instance, a year ago, the employed people increased by 488 thousand. Based on Orwell's ideas, it is clear that freedom dies, especially when people are looking for employment given that they do not have the freedom of choice, but just to present their qualifications and wait even if they are not considered for the employment (Smith, 2018). Besides, he identifies that in the world, every man is for himself meaning that people do not care about others, but only about their success and achievements.
Unequal Treatment and Selfishness
In many companies, I have experienced the issue of some people doing the duties of more than one person to receive a double salary. This is what Orwell views, as the aspect of some people being more equal than others (Koller, 2018). In the Philippines, some people own different job positions at different organizations. I identify this behavior as being selfish and not caring about other people who have the same qualifications. It is clear that the majority of the people who are affected by unemployment issue are the Filipino youths. Although they go through different education levels, it is difficult for them to secure themselves some employment, as the elders or people who have been in the employment sector for many years retain their positions even after retirement.
The Gap between Official Statements and Personal Experience
The Philippines population grows at a high rate, and this might be the reason for the rising rate of unemployment. Nonetheless, since the economic sector in the Philippines experiences growth, this means that some individuals continue increasing their wealth while others turn to be poorer with time. I have seen many people suffer as they seek employment for many years without success. According to reports, the majority of the Filipinos who are not employed do not have the appropriate qualifications, and those with higher education do not have the required experience for different job positions (Resurreccion, 163). Indeed, there is a gap between the correct statements about unemployment in the Philippines and personal experience in the labor sector.
