Politics and its Influence on Everyday Life
Politics is an inherent part of our social lives and every human being is governed by some form of government. If these regimes are democracies, monarchies, totalitarian societies, or something more, they all have political elements that influence our everyday lives.
Legislation and Political Parties
Since legislators have governmental powers, they pass legislation that affects people's lives. These political decisions are made by political parties, whose leadership means that elected politicians enforce party decisions and agendas bypassing these rules. In the United States, for example, there are two main political parties, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party, whose philosophies are diametrically opposed. Despite the fact that there are other minor parties, the democrats and republicans control most of the political decisions in the country. Decisions by these political parties affect the lives of Americans and the international community (Blum and Smaldone).
The Impact of Presidential Elections
In the just concluded elections, Donald Trump was elected as the 45th president of the US on a Republican ticket. The presidential transition will see a lot of changes in political decisions in the US. The president-elect has declared that he will repeal some of the laws enacted by the Obama administration. For instance, the president-elect has promised to end the Obamacare established by the outgoing regime. The president-elect's stand on taxation, proposal to build the border wall along the Mexican border, views on immigration among others will have a direct or indirect impact on the citizens as well as the international community. In leading a nation, political leaders depend on the backing of their political parties and affiliated parties (Briggs 76).
Significance of Political Parties and Ideologies
Political parties and their ideologies affect everyone despite their affiliation or non-affiliation. Every citizen pays taxes to the government and the politicians determine how these taxes are spent. Therefore political parties and their ideologies are of great significance to the social and economic life of everyone. Politics cannot, therefore, be rendered obsolete since issues such as taxation, war, security, crime, health, food, transport, and politics impact most aspects that affect human life.
