Justin Lehmiller and Allison Cipriano conducted an online survey that sook to examine and evaluate people’s humor and personality. The study involved characters who had attained the age of 18 years, male identity, United States citizens and English Language fluent speakers. The researchers argued that the mentioned qualifications would influence the results that would be obtained for the study. The coloration meant that people’s personality and humor were dependent variables for the study as they directly depended on age, nationality, language and gender.

There was a control group that did not receive direct treatment from the researcher. The control group was a feature that was involved in defining the variable.  Cipriano and Lehmiller used the control group to isolate the effects of the variable that are being tested, the independent variables were expected to have alternative explanations  that are bore by the experimental results.  The analysts for the study had also a grasp over the variables. Therefore, there had to be a control group that was supposed to ascertain the experimental results from the research design. Also, the control group is used in the scientific experiments as a set that is separated from the main experiment so as it can demonstrate the independence of the results obtained (Kenneth " Bruce, 2012). Therefore, Lehmiller and Cipriano’s research depicts the presence of a control group that led to identification of unbiased study in the experiments.

Participants were asked to sacrifice their 15 minutes to participate in the research.  They were requested to respond to an online survey without intimidation. Miller " Wertheimer (2010) asserts the importance of allowing the respondents to voluntarily participate in the survey and have informed consent on when and how they are to participate. Cipriano and Lehmiller’s research allowed the survey respondents to willingly participate and the informed consent as the voluntary agreement that allowed them to note the benefits of participating in the study through filling in the survey questions.

In research design, experiment and observational study models are used. In experimental research design, the researcher undertakes experiments to arrive at a conclusion rather than make observations. In the study research by Cipriano and Lehmiller (2018), the study incorporates the aspects of the experimental research model, with the consideration that they rely more on the research participants that manipulate every aspect for deriving the research findings and conclusions. Notably, the study embraces human intervention by utilizing various studies to observe the research topic. Cipriano and Lehmiller (2018) conducted the study by analyzing the impacts of the variables and having a high degree of control over other variables. Conversely, Cipriano and Lehmiller utilized the experimental research design model by exposing the research subjects to various conditions that impacted their masculinity.     Apart from manipulating the independent variable, the researchers held the dependent variables constant(Cipriano " Lehmiller, 2018)  Conclusively, the experimental research used male subjects and embraced a control group to measure the impacts of condition s that impacted the client’s masculinity.

In an experimental study, the research manipulates the independent variable by subjecting the research subjects to conditions that impact the subject’s research characteristics of focus (Neuman " Robson, 2014). Cipriano and Lehmiller manipulated the study by embracing the independent variable by exposing the subjects to different levels of conditions that threaten their masculinity. Notably, the researchers measured the degree of variance of the dependent variables.
