The Impact of Discrimination in the Workplace

The podcast presents a procedure that was once used by a teacher in Iowa to teach her third-grade class how it feels to be discriminated against. The teacher uses the color of the eyes to divide the class and make those with a particular color of their eyes to be superior while the others are made to believe and feel how inferior they are regarding the color of their eyes. It is notable that the hatred that is spewed between the children goes high to the level of causing a fight between once friended boys. One learner that faces discrimination is constantly teased by his fellow classmate, and he gets mad and hits him. At the end of the experiment, the bond that existed between the children become even more significant. It was also noticed that those facing discrimination would perform poorly while those feeling superior gave their best and results were tremendous. The results that follow the experiment as shown in the podcast are in line with the lesson that the chapter offered about discrimination and its effects in virtually everything in an individual's life. The information can help in the process of instilling fairness in every individual because the person gets to be under the bus and feels what the others experience in real life.

Part B

In his article, Cruz (2016) illustrates the manner in which discrimination in hospitals can be ended. The author in question presents the same procedure that dictates making an individual have a taste of being thrown under the bus, which awakens the thought that people are equal and everybody should be treated as so regardless of the skin color or country of origin. The study presented black patients to white nurses, and the nurses were then presented and treated similarly by other black nurses making either side to experience the impact of discrimination. After the practice, every nurse either white or black devotes themselves to treat every patient in the same way.
