The Ethical Dilemma of the Tobacco Industry

The masterminds and producers of a product, that though affects the consumers negatively, face havoc in society. There are Companies that produce products like Tobacco cigarettes, polythene bags, sex toys and pornographic industry and alcoholic brews among other products. Such organizations face challenges in marketing and appealing their products to the society. The paper discusses the ethical difficulties experienced by the companies in production and distribution, the variation of societal perception between the products and other products, the means of survival of the company towards success, and the organizational leadership commands that enhance existence.

For instance, one of them is the mastermind company. Dominant in the production of tobacco, an agricultural crop used to make cigarettes that contains nicotine that tends to stimulate the user. The drug is consumed through chewing or smoking(Sharma, 2016). The stimulant has several side health effects from causing lung and lips cancer, environmental pollution and the most dangerous being addiction. The industry began a long time ago in the United States where the plant was well respected and grown for commercial purposes. It was considered as a gift or a unification commodity during events. The popularity increased when the Europeans arrived in the country and commercialized the drug.

The mastermind company experiences several challenges and difficulties in dealing with the industry. First, lack of suppliers in the market. Since the society perceives the product as unhealthy, farmers have opted out of the industry. Other cash crops and food crops are grown instead of the product. Second, fight against consumption by governments. The world health organization reported tobacco to consist of the spread of many diseases and dangerous health issues to the consumers. Addiction and cancer effects lead to the rise of ban among countries(Sharma, 2016). Government’s bodies like the National Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in Kenya spearheaded the fight against public smoking because of the passive smoking effect of tobacco. Last, distribution challenges. The mastermind company experiences shortages in the distribution of the product since the ban of the commodity and scarceness. The under agents sell the good illegally in some countries causing wrong perception and negative attitude of the society towards the product.

Over the past century, the production and consumption of the product-tobacco did not have many effects and negatively listed as compared to current situations. The drug in America however, contributes for many deaths and illnesses yet preventable(Sharma, 2016). The spread has dominated to the rest of the world as even young teenage consume the product in shisha form. The world has come on the rise to fight the consumption of tobacco through the ban of public use, educating the society on the dangers accumulated by the consumption, and creating rehab centers to reduce the consumption.

The mastermind company and other producing agents have worked for hand in hand with local state laws to educate the public through health experts on the harmful effects of tobacco. Thus, the signs and warnings on cigarettes packets that tobacco use is detrimental to one’s health. This median creates awareness before purchase (Gerber, 2018). Therefore, it is certain that buyers of the product are the intended users who are willing and able.

Despite the effects and harmfulness of specific products, consumers still require them for their daily needs. Leadership skills and cultures enable consumers to maintain consumption. Marketing team requires honesty and transparency on the ingredients of the product. Second, declare side effects and health implications of the product(Gerber, 2018). Finally, discipline and education of members create an ethical environment for the product consumers.
