Horses possess several symbolic powers that are often alluded in various mythologies. As such the use of horses for therapy is considered to be uniquely effective. The effectiveness of horse therapy in treating neurological illnesses such as autism, stroke, cerebral palsy, psychiatric and behavioral disorders is a field that elicits divided opinions since there is a gap on evidence to prove it. Some studies assert that the therapy that involves horse riding does well in stimulating the cognition, gait parameters and mood. Having this in consideration has prompted the establishment of a foundation that involves the use of horses to enhance neurological functions.
This gap in studies has prompted the need for this dissertation. Most of the information to be used in this research are peer reviewed articles. This research uses an analytical and evaluative approach in order to ascertain the effectiveness of this therapy to treat neurological disorders. The study would evaluate the effectiveness of other therapies vis-à-vis horse therapy. An analysis of the extent of effectiveness would also be essential and discussions made in regards to the findings of the evaluation and analysis.
The implications/benefits of this research are that it has opened a gateway to future research to determine the outcomes of specific conditions and the evaluation of the healing process. Additionally, it has made a contribution towards the research of the age factor in regards to this therapy and whether its effectiveness varies with the condition of the patient.
