In 1948 the Soviets Union had already set up left-wing governments in those countries that had been liberated by the Red Army in Eastern Europe. This created fear in the Americans and the British that supremacy of the Soviet Union in the Eastern Europe will influence communist parties to come into power in the republics of Western Europe.

Senator McCarthy is one of the people that was trying to fight the issue of communism in America.
