To provide meaningful assistance to the client, skillfully probing will be essential to ensure that every information about the client’s psychosocial and health welfare is thoroughly considered. This assessment is also important in ensuring that all cases of depression, which is the initial point of concern are controlled to eschew the possible contingencies attached to depression within a client.
Assessment
From the case study on James, it is evident that he is required to undergo a casework process. This is In essence of ensuring that, his health and physical welfare is checked, any possible diagnosis made and the most effective form of therapy to treat the patient is provided (Beck, 2005). It will be possible to make inferences on how to help James, the client, the most effective remedy to his condition.
Firsts and foremost, James suffers from depression as asserted by his doctor. Additionally, he has not been able to be actively involved in social formations which would create an interactive context with his family members (Mullins, 1991). He had limited time with his family owing to the fact that h was constantly busy to an extent that he would only have the niche to fully interact with his loved ones after retirement (Mullins, 1991). This retirement was not a personal decision but mandatory from his place of work.
This means that he was ultimately attached to his job and could not opt to retire were it not for the job requirement. Further assessment shows that he only spent time with his sickly wife after retirement; a situation which he assumes that it prepared him for the forthcoming demise of his wife. This means that, he assumes that the death could not greatly affect him since he had seen it coming. Moreover, he has only been able to enjoy the company of his son’s family after his retirement, which has been of great impact in providing emotional therapy to James.
Psycho Social study
From James way of life, it is possible that he found himself practicing most anti-social behaviors. Mostly, these were brought about by his busy nature, which availed; little time for him to extensively interact with those that mattered to him, family. However, he realizes how the interactions are important when Amber and Rob plan to move in with him. Gathering form facts about James’ family it is evident that cases of depression are not new in the family (Beck, 2005). They have been seen from James’ parents who were greatly affected by the demise of their daughter. The impact of depression is seen in James recent alcohol intake cycle. It is seen that he has increased the intake over the last few days. This is most likely brought about by the fact that he understands that Amber and Rob are moving away from him due to occupation reasons.
Inferring from the laid case
It is evident that James suffers from extreme depression. This is encapsulated within the fact that, first, he has lost his wife, in times when he need her more, after retirement, since it is the only time that he could have been able to fully enjoy her company. However, this has been shattered by her death from an incurable disease. Additionally, his depression is steered by the fact that, cancer cases has not been new to the client.
His sister died as a result of the same which is most; likely to increase his susceptibility to depression. He also experience disjunction from his family members like his brother whom he has only seen in rare occasions not even in his most solemn times like the recent tragedy which has befallen him. Another risk factor is the fact that his only companions, son’s family, are moving to a distant place. This greatly affects him since he will not enjoy the company of his grandchildren which he seems to enjoy. It is also evident that, most likely, this is not the first instance of depression to James. It is stated that, the client’s father was a social drinker. This behavior had brought chaos at home since there were constant conflicts between the parents. He has also experienced the loss of both parents which in most cases is a predispose to depression among the children (Schilson & Braun 2003). In a nutshell, deaths within the family have brought no good in curbing James’s depression status.
Issues to be addressed
From the psychoanalytic theory, it is clear that etiology and diagnosis are intertwined in providing the basic therapy to any cases of psycho-extremities (Mullins, 1991). This means that considering the risk factors which have made James susceptible to depression will be a shrewd move in proving the most effective remedy to his health status (Schilson & Braun 2003). The various issues to be considered include the personality of the client. This will be through considering his interactive ability and social reputation with others.
Furthermore, considering the nature of the problem which the patient undergoes. In this case, the patient suffers from depression, which has even changed his during habits to extreme levels which might affect his health status (Beck, 2005). What is more, it will be wise to consider the various predisposing factors to the client’s problem and finally, the relative role of the caseworker in providing good therapy to salvage the client’s health and mental condition. From the above assessment, the care plan will be handy in providing a smooth diagnostic scheme and making of tentative conclusions concerning James’s condition (Schilson & Braun 2003).

This case plan will provide the roadmap to ensure that all possible inferences are made to see through recovery of the client from his condition. The caseworker’s role is to ensure that every detail of the case plan is followed. It will be important to ensure that the family support is highly considered to see through the success of the whole care plan (Schilson & Braun 2003). The long-term objectives of this acre plan will be first, to avoid deterioration of the health status of the client. Secondly, to improve his social behavior especially interactions with those that he had not had enough time to do so (Schilson & Braun 2003). To promote the normal functions and roles of a family and lastly to uphold the objectives of professional case working process. The stated period is only a subject of change (Schilson & Braun 2003). It will be impacted on by the rate of response of the client to the therapy provided. Slow response will ultimately lead to an extension of the time.
