The Biological Sex Differences in the Human Intelligence Quotient

Abstract

Many academics have debated whether there is a biological sex difference in IQ, the measure of a person's level of intelligence, or if IQs are similar throughout the gender spectrum. This article includes a longitudinal investigation of the sex difference in IQ, which suggests that boys start to have higher IQs than females around the age of 16. (Neisser, Ulric, et al 2016). According to the study, girls have an average IQ of 1 compared to boys' 1 IQ at an early age of 7 to 11 years. However, this changes at the age of 16 years whereby boys gain more intelligence of 1.8 IQ than the girls.

Introduction

In the recent past psychologist found the test that can be used to determine mental abilities such as verbal ability, mathematical ability or memory on individual which showed that there was similarity in performance for any of the three indicators. If one performed well in one kind of test then tended to pass on the remaining test. Consequently, those who performed poorly tend to replicate the same across the board. From these similarities it was discovered that there is general factors behind individual intelligence abilities. Sex difference in the intelligence stipulated in both male and female can also be measured using elementary cognitive tasks (ECT). Reaction Time (RT) and Temporal Processing (TP) are some of example of cognitive tasks. Such tasks have ability to measure neural efficiency. This reflects correct outcome since it does not show difference in strategy, motivation or personality trait. Importance of this study it is cardinal to do research on this topic to contribute knowledge and understanding about IQ on previous researches. There is perceived misconception regarding males and female intelligence ability and this piece of work will provide real facts on this subject. The finding from the study presents how different sex values themselves across different stages in life. Reduce the perceived myths and facilitate broader knowledge about sex difference. Lastly, it will be of high importance to offer reliable information on IQ to reduce negative self-evaluations and stereotypical judgments of other people's characteristics and abilities.

Objectives of Study

This work objective is to examine the sex differences in actual IQ level. Afterwards, examine differences in their IQ among different sex. Finally, through findings, give primary and possible explanations for any biological differences in IQ level.

Research Questions

This study intended to explain the following research questions.
1. Is there any significant biological sex differences in the human intelligence quotient?
2. What is the perception of self-perceived IQ among both sex?

Hypotheses

Hypothesis 1:

There is a significant difference between different sex and level of intelligence quotient.

Hypothesis 2:

Both gender estimate that males have higher IQ level than females.

METHODOLOGY

There was a total of 60 people who participated which constituted 30 males and 30 females. All the responded were from the university and the reason for equal numbers of both male and female was for comparison purposes.

Measures

The participant are requested to fill the questionnaires which comprise three parts which as follows; demographic variables, qualitative survey questions and EI assessment. Demographic section intended to acquire individual gender and year of study. Perfect response is collected from the questionnaire since it is directly given to respondent and immediately picked after it has been fully answered.By using probability sampling method, different group of students were supplied randomly with questionnaires. The survey was contacted using stratified random sampling (Collaer, et al 2015). A total of 105 students were divided into five groups to form strata. Then from the strata six boys and six girls were randomly picked from each group using draw lots. This approach helps to increase chances for the sample to represent the whole population.

Data Analysis

The data gathered from respondent was put into categories, organized and finally analyzed using statistical approach. Independent Sample t-Test is used to study the biological sex differences in IQ level (Hypothesis 1). The information is presented using pie chart since data can be converted in Percentage form.

Discussion and conclusion

The objective of the study has achieved by examining the biological sex differences in IQ level. As well as supporting view of both gender that male have a higher IQ than girls. The finding of this study showed that most of the participants considered factors such as of cognition/mentality and emotionality when they gave their answer to the questions evaluating level of IQ. Therefore there is significant difference between gender levels of IQ.
