Nursing is defined by the American Nursing Association as the protection, promotion, and optimization of abilities and health, the prevention of illness and injuries, advocacy in the care of individuals, communities, families, and general populations, and the alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment (Alligood & Martha, 2014).
The broad notion included in the nursing discipline, a concept that serves an entire thinking, is included in the metaparadigm. The term metaparadigm is derived from the Greek word "Meta," which means "behind seen." It refers to the diagnostic and investigation performed by nurses in order to uncover unknown disorders. These are the environment, people, health, and nursing (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
The environment plays an essential role in promoting illness recovery and maintaining health. There are five environmental components which are necessary to a individuals health and are collectively known as “health of houses” and includes all that impact the recovery of the patient (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
Nursing addresses this metaparadigm as nursing creates an enabling environment for the patient by maintaining cleanliness around the patient and offering the patient with the necessary diet to speed up recovery (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
Person
The person in this context refers to the patient receiving care. The person is viewed as a multidimensional being that includes psychological, social, biological and spiritual components. The biological components include the giving of medicines and nursing of injuries, the psychological and social components include feelings and social interactions. Nursing addresses this metaparadigm by giving medications and nursing injuries on patients to see that they recover promptly (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
Health
Health is immensely general and does not view it particularly from a clinical view. One does not have to be free from disease to be considered healthy but rather should always strive to maintain a healthy state (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
Nursing upholds health by ensuring that people are thought on safe practices to remain healthy, and the patients are given the correct medicine and diet to help the patients regain their healthy state (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
Nursing
Nursing is a paradigm of the nursing profession meant to contextualize nursing and improve care. This paradigm is majorly founded upon compassion as nurses become nurses to help people who are suffering. Nursing is an emotional and ethical paradigm that touches the roots of nursing as a profession (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
The nursing profession upholds this paradigm by caring for patients and aging populations who are in need of care. Nurses do this by providing health care, proper diet, warmth and essentials such as fresh air (Holloway, Immy & Galvin, 2016).
Conclusion
Nursing continues to be a profession that makes the world a better place by fostering care. Founded upon the four paradigms, nursing continues to offer better and improved services. I conclude that the four paradigms are essential in improving the nursing profession and health care.
