Collection of Tax in Texas
Collection of tax from Texans’ accounts for the most revenue generated by the state of Texas and other local governments within the state. There are various forms of taxes within the state such property tax, corporate tax, excise duty, sales tax among other forms of taxes.
Need for Tax Collection
For the smooth provision of services, the state of Texas together with local government and agencies must collect taxes. These services include construction and maintenance of state infrastructures like roads and railroads, provision of public services like health, education, and maintenance of fire and police departments together with payment of state and county employees (Collier, 2014). Quality services in the state and county level cannot be guaranteed if enough revenue is not generated from taxes. The collection of taxes by multiple local governments and agencies within the state of Texas becomes a necessity. The residents of taxes should, therefore, be required to pay taxes to multiple county governments for quality social services. For instance, the state and the local governments like Ector County and the City of Odessa are responsible for the provision of different services like firefighting, maintenance of county and city roads, maintenance of parks and other recreational facilities, solid waste management among other vital county services. There is no overlap in the provision of services within the state, and therefore every tax collected by each level of government is accounted for. Every local government has specific roles and duties within the state (Collier, 2014).
Impact of Taxes on Social Services
Without multiple taxations with the state of Texas the quality of social service would be poor. The state needs quality education and health services to secure the future of its population. This can only be achieved if enough revenue is generated through taxes and if Texans are more willing to meet their tax obligation.
