After locking them in their room, believing they were alone, and attempting to seduce Elmira, the wife of Orgon, Tartuffe revealed his hierarchy by asking her to date him while professing to love her. Dams knew how to get there and decided to tell everyone. Orgon, however, believes that Tartuffe is being falsely accused and that his son is wicked. At the conclusion of the tale, Orgon names Tartuffe the sole heir to his property and disinherits his son. It was too late because he had given Tartuffe most of his possessions, including his wife, when he found Tartuffe was misleading. (Puchner). The article will coater this behaviour in the traditional society and the contemporary society highlighting how these behaviours were condemned in the two communities.
In the traditional society, religious hypocrisy was seen as a pretence of having a virtuous character or behaviour beliefs that one does not relay poses it was just a pretence of having some desirable behaviours or publicly approved attributes that could be seen by people. It was believed in discommodity that hypocrisy was the contrivance of making a false appearance while concealing the identity of an individual especially with the inclination to religious practices. The conduct included taking part in decisive activities for which an individual criticizes another one.
In philosophy, hypocrisy is the failure of following ones expressed moral values, as well as principles. Examples of these behaviours included deception like the claim of knowledge one does not have, claims of consistency, claims of loyalty, and claims of identity one do not poses. In this society, hypocrisy was described as a sin, and it took two forms believing in something, which is not right and acting in a manner that was contrary to the belief. Hypocrisy was even condemned in the bible by prophet Isaiah who condemned those who only worshiped god depending on the rules they were taught in the community. Jesus condemning the people practiced hypocrisy in the name of god also quoted the same verse. John the baptized also refunded to baptize the hypocrites claiming to repent before going for baptism. In the same way, Jesus called hypocrites wolves wearing ship's clothes, and people cannot claim they love god if they cannot love their brothers.
In the same way, sexual assault has been a plague in the traditional society. The bible contains tragic narratives of sexual assault, rape, and e en incest. In the ancient times, people were asked to keep the assault a secret just like the story of Tamara in the bible that was kept secrets because the scripture only tells us that she kept quiet after the incident, and she suffered at the hands of her half-brother (Groth 117). Several years letter several children experience sexual abuse and they carry the problem into adulthood. Living in the depressed situation similar to that of Tamara as illustrated in the scriptures. We are told in the bible that Christ promised healing for the people who were wounded and the scriptures advocate for spiritual transformation and healing for the individual (Bergen 44).
Rape during this time was neither covered up nor ignored instead the offenders were condemned and punished (Denov 45). On the old testaments, the women who experienced sexual assault were to be heard and justice was to be done for the victims. Thus, the Old Testament gives a picture of how the offenders were treated if found guilty of the offense. However, some critics claim the bible is unfair to women because to some extent it permitted and legalized sexual assault in the community. In cases where the woman was not at fault, she was vindicated yet none of these situations was meant to happen.
Hypocrisy is still common in the modern society, and different religious organization condemns hypocrisy just the way it was condemned in the bible. In different contexts, you will find people with a mind of compulsive loops of thought that hide their inner thoughts. Most pretend to be reputations and ha e hood morals yet they fail to practices the moral practices prescribed by the community. Examples of hypocrisy in the modern community include people who believed in Jesus who still set bad examples in the society. There are many moral failures in the church, which is an example of hypocrisy in the society. Most of the church leaders are hypocrites pretending in the church yet they have bad moral behaviour. Some church members use the church name to cheat and still from other church members. Others even conduct sexual assault in different form in the churches just the same way Tartuffe behaved towards Elmira.
Rape is still common in the modern society and it is portrayed in different forms including the use of social media (Smith 45). To some extent, sexual assault in the modern community is longer seen as a problem because the modern society tends to advocate for the problem rather than deter it in the community (Pierce and Deacy 44). In the modern community, men experience sexual assault and moist of the time they fear communication because they will be viewed as a weaker sex in the community (King and Mezey 54).
Conclusion
Tartuffe's conduct would be viewed differently in the two different communities. In the traditional community, hypocrisy was not allowed and those who practiced hypocrisy were condemned. In the same way in the modern community, people who practice deception are condemned and deterred from the community. Similarly, rape in the traditional society was seen as a crime and people need to speak out for proper punishment. However, some feared to speak and remain to suffer without allowing the offender to be punished.
In the contemporary society, sexual assault is not viewed as a major problem in some communities. In fact, they even advocate for sexual assault through magazines, pictures, advertisements and even social media platforms like Facebook encourage sexual assault in the community. However, sexual assault is an offense and the victims who experience the problem need to speak out to get justice. Furthermore, the modern society has well-established programs that prevent sexual assault in the community through education and seminars that are offered in the community. Therefore, in the modern context, sexual assault and hypocrisy are bad behaviours that every community tries to deter in the community, but because of technological developments and the increase in lust, the problems are still common in most of the modern communities.
More research should be conducted to explain why these behaviours are common in other societies especially among the educated individuals in the modern communities. Finally, research on prevention techniques or strategies used to monitor these behaviours among children can also be investigated.
