I know someone who has been the object of racial and stereotype misconception based on her race. People identified her as a quiet and reserved girl, and she studied a lot with while spending most of her time playing her musical instrument. I do imply that none of these identifications and conceptions is true; nonetheless, everyone sought to classify her as a stereotypical Asian individual expressing racial fear. Most Asian American students have the misguided image of being nerdy, shy, and quiet, which turns out as negative in comparison with the conceptualization of whites as extroverted and outgoing.
In most cases, Asian Americans have to deal with various racial slurs causing increased fears about revealing their racial origin to avoid potential stereotypes. Stereotype ideas about Asians are always detrimental to the social, mental, and cognitive development of an individual. In her case, some students were communicating racist phrases towards her, especially because she moved to America recently. The encounter hurt me, and I challenged the culprits to stop saying things like that. They, however, persistently made fun with the suggestion to stop the racial slurs and stereotypes.
I believe it is inappropriate to use racial slurs and stereotypes terms. Nonetheless, most culprits enjoy making fun of the situation, hence rendering it challenging to enlighten them on the need to stop their unruly conducts. It is critical to comprehend and perceive an individual’s character rather than a community or society. These stereotypical and racial slurs tend to have negative influences on the growth and development of an individual. For instance, misconceptions contribute to increased isolation resulting from the racial fear. They might also have a negative effect on the victim’s educational performance and self-esteem.
