Even though the majority of nations worldwide are making an effort to adopt democracy, there are still some that are lagging behind in doing so. Western nations have made every effort to accept democracy so that people can choose what they own. However, some Eastern nations have lagged behind. The best example of an Eastern nation that was once a single country but divided into two due to ideological differences is North and South Korea. The people of North Korea supported "totalitarianism," whereas those of South Korea supported democracy and argued for a cap on presidential terms. This differences in ideologies caused the country to split into North and South Korea. Though South Korea have note achieved full democracy they have made significant strides towards achieving their target. The counterparts of North Korea are expiring the wrath of “totalitarian” that they were supporting. For the last one century, they are yet to vote for their desired president since their presidency is inherited. Poor governance has made North Korea derail regarding development compared to South Korea. Similar to South Korea Pakistan is one of the best examples in Eastern countries that have strived to attain full democracy however they have a long way to obtain democracy. In eastern countries, Philippines were the first country to do away with “totalitarian” however the obstacles that they have faced has to derail them to attain a full democracy. Other countries that did away with “totalitarian” has surpassed the Philippines regarding realizing full democracy. Attaining full democracy is something that is attainable. However, the major hindrance of attaining full democracy in most eastern countries is their culture that they have embraced over the years. Once these obstacles are done away with many eastern countries will attain full democracy.
I agree that real democracy is observed in western countries like America and the United Kingdom unlike in eastern countries where they claim to be democratic and yet do not practice real democracy. A country like China has a political party that has ruled for more than 80 years. Communist Party of China has suppressed other political parties’ due to their large members that have been registered by the party. Communist Party of China has approximately 88 million registered members making it the second largest party in the world regarding membership it is the biggest party in India known as Bharatiya Janata Party which as approximately 101 million members. In China Communist party have ruled for a long time this explains the nature of democracy that the country of China practice in an ideal democracy many parties is allowed to thrive and compete between each other. In China Communist Party of China has monopolized power making it hard for the smaller party to emerge and provide competition against them. In fact, Communist Party of China has coarse the small party to support their ideologies hence making the country not to have opposition to criticize the wrong that the government is doing. Also, the same incidence is experienced in India whereby the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party is as close to 101 registered members giving it an upper hand when it comes to electing a leader. The opposition in India is insignificant since the majority of the people are affiliated to as Bharatiya Janata Party. This explains when principles or laws that are inhuman are passed without much scrutiny or concern. In Islam countries, it is the same narrative majorities have their way, and inhuman laws are passed that diminish women and gay people. It is it certain that majority of eastern countries do not practice democracy and it is evident from the crisis of war and hunger.
The Greeks invented civilization and the modern forms of democracy however the Romans are the ones who were able to implement the civilization and democracy. The Roman Empire replaced the monarchy with senates where people would elect their leaders of choice. Though democracy had not revolutionized to what it is today, it is important to acknowledge they had the skeletal of democracy. Presently in Italy, the parliament and senate comprised of elected members that represent the people. Also. In the United States of America Senate, governors and House representatives are elected by people. In eastern countries, it is evident that finding democracy is hard for instance in India. Even if they elect their leader India is yet to attain full democracy because of the problems they are facing. It is worse in Islam countries and North Korea since they are much behind from achieving real democracy. North Korea has been rendered a communist country where one person holds power and pass it to the family members when they are not in a position to hold power. It is important to acknowledge impotence of Roman Empire in introducing democracy and civilization.
