I agree with the author that advertisement works because any object a person has purchased was obtained through some kind of advertising. The article challenges companies to be more creative in the planning of their advertisement to capture the imagination and attention of consumers, and this will translate to sales.

I enjoyed the article because the writer uses practical, humorous stories to illustrate his stories. Also, instead of presenting facts logically, the writer has used the form of a story that provokes the reasoning of the reader enabling one to understand the subject matter quickly. However, the writer has not clearly brought out what makes an advertisement inappropriate, and I feel the example of the Chevy truck is not suitable. Therefore, as the writer, I would have used a better example to illustrate a bad advert and give additional characteristics of a bad advert; an advert that does show value to the consumer.

Overall Reaction and Conclusion


My overall reaction is that the text is educative and exciting to read though it still needs some improvements. I have found value in the text because I have learned that a good advertisement must have value. The consumer must see the value he or she will get from buying a product, and if the value proposition is absent, then that translates to wasted effort and resources. The writer has clearly shown that the people who argue that advertising does not work because every purchasing decision they have made in their lives, they have depended upon an ad as the source of information. I believe that the writer is knowledgeable in the area of advertising and I would seek him or her again.
