The Existence of Peer-reviewed and Non-peer Reviewed Articles in Counseling Psychology
The existence of both peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed articles discussing the various parts of this course has recently increased research in the field of counseling psychology. "Murdoch, D. D., Gregory, A., and Eggleton, J. M." is the paper to be examined (2015). Why study psychology? An examination of psychological literacy training in nursing, medicine, social work, counseling psychology, and clinical psychology.
The Use of Plain Language and Professional Jargon
Murdoch, Gregory, and Eggleton (2015) generally used plain language that any audience could understand. There existed a limited use of professional jargons all through the paper. The wording of the paper depicted professionality with the authors being extremely concise. The article was published in the present tense, and the authors' voice complemented evidence from other pieces of research.
The Objective and Audience of the Article
The article's primary objective was to analyze the relevance of psychology in various scientific and non-scientific fields. The authors also strived to examine how psychology is taught in most learning institutions and its implications to the primary care networks. Murdoch, Gregory & Eggleton's intended audience was the scholars in the fields of clinical and counseling psychology, medicine, social work, and nursing. The authors utilized several peer-reviewed articles as their source of evidence and established that psychology is crucial in the development of collaboration among professionals in the healthcare sector.
Criteria for Determining Peer-reviewed Articles
Search filters were primarily used as a criterion for searching the article. There exist numerous criteria that could be employed in defining whether or not an article is peer-reviewed. First, similarly to other peer-reviewed articles, Murdoch, Gregory & Eggleton (2015) used a professional language. Secondly, the number of sources indicate that the paper is peer-reviewed since articles reviewed by a panel must have numerous supporting pieces of evidence (Jacobs et al., 2012). The presence of clear graphics and a well-defined abstract also shows that peer-reviewed the article. The use of non-peer reviewed articles is advisable when searching for general or background information and when no evidence for research is required (Nicholas et al., 2015).
