Live Long, Stay Strong

To avoid future disasters, everyone must recognize the critical need to be aware of what they put in their mouth. People have become more interested in keeping a healthy lifestyle in the modern world due to the increase in illnesses caused by one's food choices. George William Curtis was correct when he said that health comes first in happiness. As a result, one can safely assume that, since people are constantly seeking happiness, becoming more aware of one's eating habits will provide that happiness. Furthermore, college students are responsible for keeping their minds sharp and clear, made possible by the mainframe. College years are deemed to be crucial as an individual tries to understand their identity, likes, dislikes and what sets their heart on fire which ends up becoming pillars for one’s reason for existence. Confusion, constant bursts of enthusiasm, falling and getting up are some of the life-changing events that take place in an individual during college that somewhat redefine one’s belief and stance. A strong immune system, limited incidences of falling sick, increased concentration in class, increased confidence and others are some of the benefits college students stand to enjoy if and when they chose a healthy lifestyle. However, despite the fact that college years are linked to a period of increased consumption of alcohol, limited sleep, smoking and others in a bid to live life to the fullest, are notions that are slowly changing among students. I believe that it is critical for one to maintain a healthy lifestyle, especially in college so that one may be in the best mental state to make the life changing decisions. It is important for college students to appreciate the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle which will inevitably lead to irregular sleep patterns and how one’s personal life affects one’s studies.

College students should develop effective ways that would allow them to maintain a healthy diet. Exams, submission of paper and having an active social life among others are some of the reasons why a college student fails to pay keen attention to their health and wellness unless they suffer from an ailment. Carrie Snow acknowledges that a nap is the best remedy for a bad day. Reducing the number of time one eats out in a week, keeping healthy snacks around, eating smaller portions often, and adding veggies and fruits to one’s meals, drinking moderately are some of the ways college students may utilize so as to stick to a healthy diet (Florida). The benefits associated with eating healthy foods are insurmountable, and they can either be the long or short term. Combating diseases such as depression, diabetes is at the epicenter on the advantages of following a healthy diet that usually consists of fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and vegetables. Other benefits include having a better control on weight, moods, boost one’s energy, improved academic performance and enhance the quality of life (Hales). As a result, college students ought to ensure they are maintaining a regular sleep pattern so as to remain product at all times in school.

It is paramount for college students to acknowledge that sleep plays a vital role in one’s physical health. Some of the causes of sleep disorders can be as a result of abnormalities in the cardiovascular, immune, brain and nerve system. Moreover, obesity, hypertension, insomnia, sleep apnea, emotional disorders are some factors that lead to sleep problems. There is a myriad of benefits linked to sleep despite the banishing of under-eye circles and having a positive mood. Some of the advantages include healthy brain function thus improves memory, physical health since there is less risk of getting heart disease, high blood pressure, spurs creativity and increases performance and safety. In particular, a study conducted in 2010 on the risk of heart attacks found out that C-reactive protein that is associated with heart attacks was found to be in high levels in people who had six or fewer hours of sleep. Reducing watching television or checking emails, morning or afternoon exercises, eating better, avoiding shattering alarms and others are some of the ways one may adopt so as to enhance one sleep patterns (Assefa, 155-171).

A student’s personal life outside the classroom has an impact on his or her studies. The upbringing of student’s, culture, their environment, and attitude are some of the factors that affect how one would react in different situations. In the event, a student has grown in an environment that discourages taking risks; it contributes to the reduction of the willpower of the student in question. The case will contrast significantly where a student is brought up in an environment that encourages risks as the student will develop high self- confidence and self-driven in every activity they embark in. Every individual knows that how one perceives one’s ability is the first step to achieving great heights in one’s career path or conquering previously unchartered areas. Self- confidence is directly linked to improved performance in a student. College students, who are known to be involved in extra curriculum activities, as well as top performance in their class, are believed to be highly self-aware and confident of their abilities. Moreover, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the ways that could help college students increase their confidence as they would learn to love and appreciate themselves. Dalai Lama sentiments that inner strength and self-confidence brought by a calm mind, is vital for good health echoes my belief that a positive perception of self-encourages one to maintain a healthy lifestyle ("How Does Your Personal Environment Impact Your Wellbeing? | Taking Charge Of Your Health & Wellbeing").

It is worth recognizing that after all is said and done, that one’s words control one’s progress, results and also mental and physical health and therefore entertaining thoughts or talks of failure is frustrates a person’s efforts for success. College students are encouraged to be determined to lead a lifestyle that enables them to reap the most during their young years so as to ensure a peaceful and less stressful transition when obligations increase later on in life. Self-drive and the goal to enjoy life to the fullest can only be truly harnessed from within and reflects through a person’s actions.
