Interstate Warfare and the Decline of War
Interstate warfare has decreased significantly in recent decades. The majority of scholars agree that institutions and countries are improving. At the same time, people have begun to recognize the value of democracy because democratic nations do not go to war. More states today want to move toward interconnection in order to prevent the disastrous consequences of going to war with each other (Kralev, 2012, p. 1). The majority of governments appear to recognize that conflict is unfavorable to the foreign affairs and commerce networks. United States and Iraq are two great powers whose decline of war between them has fostered positive effect of foreign policy. Although there are numerous impacts this has led, the most significant can be seen in U.S-Iraq relations, U.S assistance to Iraq and bilateral economic relationship.
Regional Politics and Foreign Policies
Interstate war decline has led to countries being involved in regional politics. The United States began participating in deeply in regional politics by acting to support what the country currently sees as its national interest, the most critical being avoid conflict with the Communists to ensure steady economic growth and supply of commodities such as oil (Kralev, 2012, p. 1). Owing to the significant decline in war, there has been the establishment of foreign policies in United States that promote stability and peace in Iraq as well as across the globe.
Positive Transformations and Interstate Policies
Further, after ten years of war with United States, a decline of war has allowed Iraq to establish interstate policies that enable the government and Iraqis to positively transform and make progress. Today, the ministry of foreign affairs is restoring the natural role of Iraq as a critical global partner and stabilizing relations with U.S. The aim of is to re-establish their economic infrastructure as well as raise standards of living (U.S Department of State. 2014, p. 1). The ministry appears to recognize that this can only be achieved by upholding and entering into foreign policies.
Diplomatic Relations and International Cooperation
At the same time, decline in interstate war has enabled the United States and Iraq gets into foreign strategies that focus on normalizing their diplomatic relations between them and other international communities based on respect and cooperation for mutual interest (U.S Department of State. 2014, p. 1). The current state of peace has considerably promoted active participation in initiatives and multilateral policies with both countries engaging in upholding human rights and democracy as well as good governance while also prevent illegal proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Also, peace that prevails between U.S and Iraq has led to the U.S security assisting program in Iraq that oversee accountability and capacity of the country to defend its national borders (U.S Department of State. 2014, p. 1).
Rebuilding Bilateral Relationship and Foreign Policies
Similarly, the present state of calmness between the two nations has prompted the development of an international plan that prioritizes rebuilding bilateral relationship between then through transparent and active foreign policies, re-engage and improve their interstate affiliation. Moreover, this has been fostering and encouraging international cooperation based on their geographical proximity (Long et al., 2015, p. 21). United States and Iraq remain committed to establishing foreign procedures that promote positive exchange between them. Iraq is now an important partner for U.S in moderation and democracy of Middle East. The foreign relation between these two countries has overseen functioning of Iraq governmental institutions. As a result, this has resulted in increased production and export of oil from Iraq to U.S. The two remain engaged in developing diplomatic economic and political framework and strategic agreements that provide the basis for their bilateral relationship (Moret, 2015, p. 121). Additionally, decline in interstate war between these countries has led to establishment of foreign policies which have led to coverage of bilateral issues including diplomacy and political relations.
Bilateral Economic Relations and Foreign Trade Policies
Moreover, it is imperative to indicate that current political climate between Iraq and United States has fostered bilateral economic relations (Harn, 2013, p. 1). The government of Iraq has begun desiring to transition from centrally run economy to one that market-oriented. Although the progress has been gradual, the countries are slowly deepening its internal trade relation with US and other international community with both import and export demonstrating rapid growth recently (Embassy of Republic of Iraq, 2014, p.1). In 2011, the United States through foreign policy agreement designated Iraq as the beneficiary developing nation under the Generalized System of Preference and several organizations from U.S, for example, those related to automobile, information technology, and energy are active in Iraq. Similarly, there has been a two-way trade in the same year with U.S exports to Iraq amounting to 2.4 billion dollars (Harn, 2013, p. 1). This has been possible owing to foreign trade policies.
Conclusion
Indeed, there has been a notable decline in interstate war across the globe. One of such instances involves United States and Iraq as two of the greatest powers. This has resulted in the development of foreign policies that can be seen in U.S-Iraq relations, U.S assistance to Iraq and bilateral economic relationship. The immediate impact is economic benefits and positive transformation in restoration of the Iraq natural role as global partner. Further, there has been normalization of diplomatic relation between these two countries. The Iraq is now able to export oil to United States owing to foreign trade policies. The effect can also be observed by focusing on the bilateral relationships that have been established between the two. Therefore, the decline in interstate war has a positive impact on the establishment of foreign policies.
