Gender-Based Violence

Koch, C. &. (2015). Movement of Female's Rights in the World. International Journal of Multicultural and Multireligious Understanding, 2(6), 26-32.

According to Koch, the world of today is not realizing the principles of democracy because women's rights are still being violated. Women play an essential role in our society, and therefore, their status should be elevated, and their rights safeguarded. Also, nations need to realize that women play a significant role in the realization of developments in a country. According to the author, developed nations started to advocate for the rights of women a long time ago, and this is the reason they have more developments than the developing countries. Although much has been done by feminist groups as well as organizations concerning changing the status of women, male chauvinism still exists. Therefore, more need to be done to ensure that women enjoy the same rights as men in modern society. There is a need to articulate the rights of women as human rights so that they can be taken with the seriousness they deserve (Koch, 2015).

SIDA is an international organization that supports policies aimed at eliminating gender-based violence. According to this organization, ending gender-based violence and ensuring that women are provided with the necessary security can assist in boosting developments and cooperation in a nation. This article is written in the context of Swedish and highlights the common sufferings women go through and how they can be prevented. Women are exposed to many suffering which causes a negative impact on their sexual, physical, psychological health. Violation of their rights also impacts on their development and personal identity. If women and girls are not safe, they cannot fully participate in activities that allow the development of their societies. The author reflects on international agreements such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing 1995 among others which were aimed at eliminating violation of women’s rights (SIDA, 2015).
