Exhibition Review Proposal

Museum of the City of New York avail a great opportunity to visitors and New Yorkers around the globe to learn about the perpetual transformation, unique character and heritage of diversity about art and the city at large. As indicated by Ambrose (32), any person curious to learn about the artifacts associated with New York City should visit Museum of the city to get answers. The museum has three-floor galleries which are a groundbreaking hold for all exhibitions, where foreigners identify 400 years of city and its history. The Museum city is well endowed and has even captured the human energy and featured great personalities like Jane Jacobs, Jay Z and Alexander Hamilton among others.

My disturbing crave for a visit to the museum city is ignited by the urge to learn more about artifacts, history and preserved human energy and personalities in the museum. I would like to understand more about the New York City and how the city has evolved over time. My approach to the visit will be educative and academically based. The visit will be educative since I would like to write a comprehensive review to my lecturer about what I learned from the museum about the city, whether my stipulated objectives regarding the review were achieved, how my craving was quenched by what I saw and above all, how the departments that I visited in the museum enlighten me and gave me more understanding and a broad view of culture.

My interpretive angle about the visit will be basically articulated to New York history. My interpretation of the arts, personal energy and featured great personnel will be primarily based on past, present and forecasted activities of the New York City. This will help me avoid criticism and biasness surrounding the city as viewed by other people from different states and countries.

PART 2

Exhibition reviews proposal

            Museums have educative roles that depend on the collections preserved in the museum and the experience offered to visitors (Ambrose et al, 22). In New York, The Museum City is regarded as an informal institute that offers to learn to visitors. The museum city has been articulated to effective communication.  As I had quoted in my approach, my visit and exhibition to Museum of the City of New York will be objective in nature and academically rooted. The visit will only be attributed to my subject review understudy, which is “history and criticism surrounding the New York City. “ The following are the outlined stipulations that I forecast to fulfill under the exhibition review;

What makes the museum unique and more attractive?

The history of New York City

Cultural artifacts found in the museum

The relevance of the artifacts to New Yorkers and the society

Hard facts that surround New York evidently

How the hard facts have helped to combat criticism associated with New York City

The different departments found in the museum and the educative perspective for each

How the great personalities featured in the museum impacted the City

Perform some statistical analysis of the number of visitors per year, average number of visitors annually and the annual total return to the museum

Therefore during my visit to the museum for learning, I would like the curators to observe concept of the hierarchy of content to impart me with outstanding knowledge. A conventional pattern about the educative features should be incorporated to provide me with broad knowledge and view. For comprehensive and well-endowed exhibition review, I will utilize both effective and interpretative exhibition.

According to The New York Times journalist, the Museum of the City of New York exhibition embraces four themes that make it distinct. The themes include Money, density, diversity and creativity. Under money, several researched articles dictate that the museum was initially named as New Amsterdam and began as a for-profit organization. The preserved artifacts and exhibitions in the museum encourage diversity. In this sense, the Museum City of New York has fostered tolerance and disregards racial discrimination. This is seconded by the information found in the museum about slavery among blacks in the 1770s. The city holds data for both whites and blacks. In light of this issue, I would like to fully identify the preserved data for both blacks and whites and observe the distinct features in history for the two. This will help me clear out the notions that have had about black and white history and how that impacted their present lives.

Under the theme of diversity, I would critically like to comprehend how the city evolved from slums to huge and well decorated recognized buildings. I will be willing to comprehend how skyscrapers like Empire State Building, 30 Rockefeller Plaza and Chrysler Building came into existence. Indispensably, New York City is home to creativity, inventions and innovations. A lot of information about new initiatives, innovations and creativity has been preserved in the Museum City. Under my exhibition, I would like to identify and comprehend the factors that geared to such amazing creativity. According to New York Times journalist, the creativity associated with the city stems from essentiality demanded by preoccupation and diversity to make money. The museum has the Future City Lab which invites visitors to dive into the issues confronting the city over the coming years a very long time in a hands-on space and immersive way. Special exhibitions found in the entire museum focuses on a variety of issues ranging from social activism history to the present surroundings of the New York City.

Fire engines and dollhouses have made the museum city famous. In recent reviews by scholars, they noted that the museum had initiated social relevant exhibitions on affordable housing. This has made the museum to gain broader lens from other historical societies and make it gain vibrant recognition globally. During my visit, I will draw my attention to these prevailing issues since they are of great significance to the New York society.  I also would like to pay attention to great artifacts like jewel box wall, Lenape Indian war club among others. I would also focus on historical drawings like original drawing for the New York log by Milton Glaser.

I would also pay close attention to the future city lab found in the museum. Researchers present the labs as a timely effort that facilitates SimCity technology and Tocquevillian civic discourse that confront contingencies generated several issues like getting along with other people, housing a growing population and making a living among others. Living in the postmodern life and technology, an exhibition review of the above-mentioned issues will be of great importance to the society. I will as well explore the curvaceous technologies map that visualizes the demographic metamorphosis of the city of New York. According to published articles, visitors can utilize the facilities in the lab to design parks, their own housing and streetscapes by using video screens suited for nitpickers. This feature makes the museum city of New York City unique.

In summary, I will need good and competent curators for guidance according to the stipulated hierarchy of contents and objectives that I have for my visit. I have chosen the Museum City of New York since it is at the centre of the state and above of interest to my study. I strongly believe that all my highlighted goals for the visit and study will be entirely met. I will ensure that I avoid distractions during the visit and allocate sufficient time for each department to grasp all the vital information.
