The recent incidences of school have sparked interest in research to determine the effect of this behavior on delinquency within the learning institutions. According to the article, peer victimization plays a significant role in bringing about strain, which consequently manifests itself in school delinquency. The study found out that physical and verbal victimization is associated with school delinquency as well as other factors such as anger and frustration. However, further research is essential considering that there have been other sources said to cause strain that affect school delinquency.
Lessons from the reading
Important lessons from this article include the fact youths who are victimized by their peers are more likely to experience school delinquency, an aspect that is accompanied by frustration and anger. The research also outlined that strain can come from other negative factors such as family problems, bad relationship with teachers and other community related issues. As such, there is still no distinct cause in school delinquency in as far as frustration, anger and other factors are concerned (Wallace, Patchin, " May, 2005). Therefore, further studies are required to establish the different sources of strain and their influence in youths who engage in school delinquency.
Conclusion
What interested me most in this article is that strain can be caused by many factors, which are independent of each other. Moreover, although strain has been associated with engagement of youths in school delinquency, there are other factors such as peer victimization, anger and frustration that act independently. I would like to conduct studies in future to differentiate the effect of the listed factors on enhancing school delinquency. Of significance is the fact that there are recommendations on how parents and teachers can help deal with this issue. In essence, school violence will require all stakeholders to come together and create effective strategies to eliminate school delinquency.
