Describing my Action in Presence of Others

Composing an essay in the presence of other people appears to be faster than doing so alone. When I am writing on an essay in the library with other students, I notice that my thinking, research, and typing pace is faster than when I am working alone in a room. When I work in a quiet environment, my typing pace is normally about forty words per minute. Yet, I am speedier than usual when I am in the library, where my other students are also working on their homework. often typing an average of sixty words per minute. Further, I have realized that my level of thinking on where to get information is higher when there are people around me. At the same time, in many instances, I have found answers to certain questions off head without struggling to get documents for confirmation. In essence, there seems to be pressure and confidence when I work in places where there are people.


Arguably, the social facilitation phenomenon enhances my performance because of the presence of others that seem to boost my concentration. That is why my typing speed is slower when I am working at home than when I am in a library. Also, the thinking enhances with the mere presence of some other people in a particular setting. The passive audience evokes some confidence and creates a feeling of supervision which consequently pushes me into rapid delivery of quality and quantity service. They make me apprehensive since I think they are monitoring my actions. In essence, I feel that I should create an impression that my presentation is above average. Hence, service delivery under perceived supervision is more productive than absence of passive participants because one develops self-consciousness.


Describing another's Action in Presence of other People


Conversely, I have observed one of my friends exhibiting different response when he works in the presence of other people. During our research and writing of essays, he demonstrates conflicting characteristic as compared to me. Unlike me, he can work faster when he is alone as compared to when he operates from the library. He indicates that he can type an average of sixty five words per minute from the solitary of his room. Contrarily, he makes many mistakes in terms of typing errors, poor sentence construction and lack of flow of ideas in his essays. He says that he feels that people around him are downgrading his performance by observing his work. That is, he develops a sense of low self-esteem that hinders his research and writing performance.


Explicably, the passive audience distracts the concentration of my friend. He ends up paying attention to the people around him rather than the work he should be doing. As a result, paying attention to others overburdens his cognitive arousal. The arousal and makes him to suspect the quality of his work leading to low quality delivery. Ideally, it seems that the people around him are evaluating his work and even providing negative opinions on his level of performance. Evidently, passive audience has different effects on individuals and my friend's experience shows how varied persons respond to social spectatorship. To some, the audience generates discomfort and hinders with the liberty of free thought and interferes with the execution of certain duties. As some scholars argue, different persons respond uniquely to social participation during action.
