The career development segment of any institution is an integral factor in the development of considerable attention to the success of the school’s activities. Lehman College has a correct address to the career development of the students, with a concise level of handling events and relevant issues, which come out as instructional in the development of the activities that have been provided. Through the creation of an adequately outlined way to include the management of the career development in the institution, it has been much more comfortable to facilitate the activities of the students and channel them towards the right career direction.
My primary purpose in the research is to conduct a comparison of the Lehman College career center and other City University of New York career development centers. This investigative research is to ensure that my audience can get to a level of attending to the most critical issues related to the development and outlining of this vital element. The memo will highlight some of the core competencies of the career center and make a comparison with the relevant department in the City University of New York. All the colleges provide their students with opportunities to develop a career as per the courses being offered in the institution. The universities aim at improving the knowledge and skills of the learners regarding their aspirations in future. Therefore, the facilitators are well equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to help the learners move from one stage of life to the other. The courses offered in the universities are almost similar, and any student within and outside New York can acquire the relevant knowledge required from this learning institution ranging from humanities to health sciences and engineering. The universities provide students with accommodation as a way to facilitate development of careers in a better way since by the students residing in collages, save time that could have been spent commuting to school and homes and hence they indulge in conducting research and studying to improve their understanding of various concepts related to their courses (Brown, 2015). Students are taken through all the training programs they are supposed to attend such as clinical placements for medical students and business tours and interviews for the ones pursuing accounting, management, business, and economics. That is aimed at familiarizing them with what happens in the field and relate to what they have learned in their classes. By doing so, the learners can have a clear picture of working they will conduct after schools. Also, in engineering and health sciences the students are supposed to learn through practice and hence while in the field they are allowed to conduct procedures while under the supervision of qualified staff in the institution they have been placed for learning practice.
The pricing of a career development module helps to attract students and interested parties to carry out their activities as per the needs (Ali 183). The career development actions help to devise a structure, which is instrumental in the foundation of better activities and attraction of significant issues to help instruct growth opportunities for the community. The fee prices of learning are not too high especially for both Lehman College and John Joy collage because they are $6812 and $6410 respectively for the last academic year. Hunters College fees are a bit higher since it is $10758 and this is for the learners who are from the states. For the learners from another state, their school fees are very high especially at Hunters College since it is $19,628. That is almost as much as twice the fee paid by the students from New York. Since the courses and the quality of education is almost similar all these universities, parents would prefer taking their children to Lehman or John Joy colleges since their fees are not too high. There are those parents who believe that cheap is expensive and hence would prefer taking their children to a college that is charging for prestige as well as the notion that the university will provide quality education and conducive environment for learning. Apparently, the social status of the parents, as well as the background of the homes where the students come from plays a huge role in determining the type of university the students joins (Sharf, 2016). Although there are too many factors to be considered while joining college such as reputation, discipline, distance, infrastructure or even dream college. The fee paid is among the major factors to be considered because most people like living within their means and hence an average income earner would prefer taking the son or daughter to Lehman College since it is more price friendly.
