China-Japan Territorial Disputes

Introduction

Japan and China have been engaged in a persistent disagreement over territorial issues for a considerable amount of time. Both parties require complete sovereignty over the fishing grounds and oil-rich islands of Senkaku and Diaoyu. According to history, Japan ruled the archipelago from 1895 until 1970, when China learned that the islands contained oil deposits. China consequently began requesting the annexation of both the Senkaku and Diayou islands, leading to direct conflicts with Japan. Studies indicate that these islands are deserted. Nonetheless, this paper is all about news analysis on China-Japan territorial disputes. It involves a thorough review of three news articles discussing the alleged conflicts, an exercise which employs publications from the BBC News, The Guardian and the Reuters.

Detailed Analysis of News Articles

The Guardian Article

There have been numerous discussions concerning the Japan-China territorial disputes. In fact, other contemporary media outlets have covered the point of view between the two countries over the islands possession over an extended period. The above-listed media outlets, which includes the BBC news, Guardian, and the Reuters, covered the story concerning this conflict last year, August 9. The Guardian article's headline of the report is framed, "Japan warns China of deteriorating Relations over Senkaku Islands."The article (Guardian) used the strategy framing mechanism to influence the actions or perceptions of the audience. It - the Guardian - focuses on the win or loss concerning the relations between the two Asian nations. The media outlet used the background information sources such as the officials in government and officials records. Concerning the choices of evidence, the article quotes the exact words said by the Chinese ambassador, Cheng. The research done by the publication is adequate. The magazine used a bold and an attractive headline most likely to attract the audience. The article does not provide a full history of the conflict alongside the ways in which the two nations came to some consensus. Even though that is the case, I would like to learn more about the conflict by searching for information on the relevant secondary and primary sources of information.

BBC News Article

The BBC News wrote the second article. It covers the same conflict, and the framing of its title is slightly different compared to that of the Guardian. The headline goes, "Japan says China of deteriorating Relations over Senkaku Islands." How the article frames, the headline is worth consideration. Instead of using the term "warns," as used by the guardian, it uses "says." The use of different terms conveys different messages, and a reader would perceive the information passed by the articles in two different ways. The BBC News does not consider the information given by Japan as a warning. Instead, it tries to lower the magnitude of the report by trying to show some level of understanding between the two nations. As opposed to the Guardian, the BBC News article incorporates the use of diagrams and illustrations to convey the information.

Reuters Article

The third article published by Reuters, an international news agency headquartered in London uses the same strategy employed by the guardian to pass the information. It stresses the warning given by the Japanese concerning the relations ties. The background information used in the article is obtained from the government officials, the photography and government records. The tone used by the guardian and Reuters report is the same, but it is entirely different from used by BBC News.
