The Challenges Faced by Students in Higher Education
The higher education industry has come up with measures to ensure that digital education, as well as the service delivery to the students, is efficient either to those studying within the university premises or to those who engage in part-time lessons in order to meet the curriculum expectations. In the course of integrating the innovations so as to improve the service delivery, there are several challenges and stressors which are experienced by the students while trying to fulfill their academic expectations(Robinson 32). The stresses in universities happen to be the contributors towards poor performances and in some cases; students are forced to drop out or call off classes in order to cater for the situation.
The High Cost of Campus Livelihood
The high cost of lunch together with other foodstuffs required in sustaining the campus livelihood tend to be very high in most universities. This is due to the fact that a large number of the students attending the higher institutions come from diverse backgrounds which the administrations do not take into consideration. As a result, the students from the well of backgrounds tend to enjoy the life since the foodstuffs required while in the institution can be easily accessible. In contrary, the students from the middle and lower living standards are subjected to dare hardship since the high cost of accessing food does not favor the little amount of pocket money they get from the guardians(Spendlove 66). As a result, students are forced to seek for alternative feeding areas which at some point happen to be far from the classes thus wasting time that could be used in studies. As a way of intervention, the federal government in collaboration with the universities’ administration should come up with a feeding programme which offers quality food to students at a lower cost. Alternatively, they can come up with a loan allocation plan for the needy students which would in turn help solve the food problem in higher learning institutions.
Limited Library Hours
Most universities offer library services to the studenta although the greatest challenge is the fact that the facilities do not operate on a 24-hour basis. As a result, students have to study in their places of residence which include the hostels which might not be very convenient. This has brought about poor performances to most students since the time meant for studies is usually cut short by the limited time they have for accessing the library. As a way of intervention, the student representatives should liaise with the institutional management to come up with a plan that maximizes the time which the students can access the facilities which in turn would improve the quality of research among students(Kottler 78).
The High Cost of Tuition and School Fees
The high cost of tuition and school fees in most of the universities has turned out to be a great challenge to most of the students especially from poor backgrounds sraining in order to survive in the institutions. The students are forced to seek for alternative sources of money which take most of their study time leading to poor performances in addition to frequent absenteeism. The institution management should, therefore, intervene by reducing the cost of learning so that it favors all the students regardless of the course they undertake or the background they come from(Spendlove 112). By doing so, it will enhance the enrollment in the institutions which in turn increases the level of productivity in the society since people will have a profession that they desire to achieve in their lifetime.
