Nursing Professionalism and Professional Standards
Nursing professionalism and anticipated behaviors among professional nurses both depend heavily on professional standards. Professional responsibility and accountability are one of the professional norms. While providing secure nursing care, a professional nurse must adhere to these professional standards. When practicing nursing, a professional nurse must conduct themselves with professionalism and embrace accountability. All nurses are also accountable for understanding professional standards and incorporating them into their daily nursing practice. Additionally, in order to practice, a professional nurse must maintain their physical, mental, and emotional well. Therefore, a professional nurse should assume responsibility for his or her nursing acts and be accountable for them as well as for their professional conduct.
Paths to Pursue in the Nursing Profession
There are various paths that an individual can pursue for the future nursing profession. The common paths include: associate degree program and bachelor degree program in nursing. An individual who pursue the form or the latter becomes the Baccalaureate degree prepared registered nurse and Associated Degree prepared registered nurse, respectively. Associate Degree Prepared Nurse (ADN) provide different care such as medical charting and assessment under the supervision of a doctor. Therefore, ADN is provides a patient-centered care. The differentiated Essential Competencies (DECs) articulates the differences in care provided by ADN and BSN. According to DECs Texas Board, the associate degree prepared nurse should assume accountability and responsibility for the best nursing care quality to clients. Moreover they should be involved in a procedure that enhances the development of professional nursing practice (Jefferson, et al., 2014). Therefore nurses have distinctive roles.
Different Roles of Baccalaureate Degree Prepared Registered Nurse
Baccalaureate degree prepared registered nurses play such roles as being a nurse educator and departmental coordinator which the Associate Degree Prepared Nurse (ADN) cannot play. According to DECs Texas Board, Baccalaureate degree prepared registered nurse should promote professional nursing practice through leadership activities as well as advocacy. Moreover, Baccalaureate degree prepared registered nurses should implement the care plan for patients and evaluate and report community and patient outcomes alongside responses to therapeutic procedures (Keeling, & Templeman, 2013). As patient safety advocates, Baccalaureate degree prepared registered nurses should implement measures that promote a safe and quality care environment for clients.
Care for a Patient with Leg Wounds
A patient who has wounds on the legs is a special case that requires proper care from both the Baccalaureate degree prepared registered nurse and Associate Degree prepared registered nurse. They should observe the above competencies for fall prevention.
