Autocratic and Democratic Leadership

Leadership activities in a company

Leadership activities in a company define and shape how activities in different company or organisations run. The connectivity between the executive leaders in a company down to their employees varies depending on the status of a company. A developed company differs from a starting company in matters concerning leadership because of the urgency or the development strategies set up by the company managers. The leadership models influence on the decision making of concrete issues that may be a turning point for the company about its success (Iqbal " Haider 3).

Workplace activities and leadership models

Workplace activities, for example, the hiring, setting up rules and implementation, have a direct relationship with the leadership models. This essay argues on whether to practice autocratic or democratic leadership models in a company. The autocratic models ensure making decisions personally without consultation while democratic leadership incorporates people’s opinions on the matter that requires a solution. In addition to that, as a manager in the company, I will argue on the leadership models regarding the workplace activity flexibility.

Autocratic Leadership Model

Leadership model influences the workplaces activities in a company, which includes decision making and hiring of employees. Effective managing of activities in a company using the autocratic leadership model dwells mainly on one individual who is particularly the manager requiring less input from the other associates of the company. While autocratic leadership having the bossy and authoritative characteristics, sometimes the company requires it for fast decision making on matters that requires urgency. Some companies thrive under autocratic leadership, for instance, the construction and manufacturing companies. Manufacturing and construction companies in particular needs to work on specific rules on the assigned task by the manager of the respective company.

Authoritative leadership and deadlines

Authoritative leadership attached to autocracy rank helps manage projects that require the attention to deadline matters (Iqbal " Haider 5). Some companies, for instance, the manufacturing companies work on deadline setting of completing a certain project. Opinions from other members on regarding the manufacturing issues in a company can conflict on the quality and used resources in the completion of the task. Autocratic leaders make decisions individually on what they feel may benefit the company and save costs. Construction companies thrive under autocracy leadership model because the contractors work on the deadline set by their managers as well as using the agreed resources. On top of that, the specifically assigned person ensures the workers follow the working rules and regulations that govern the work in place.

Specific characteristics of employees

Autocratic leadership decides the specific characteristics of employees the company needs. As a manager, I will require fewer efforts from the public on the hiring activities of the company. Individuals’ assigned managerial duties in a company to qualify to make decisions that best suit the workplace of their quality. Employees are the workforce of a company and need to possess the characteristics that the company’s quality expects. During the hiring of employees, the manager will hire employees based on his or her requirements for the smooth running of activities in the company. Opinions from other members of the company may conflict and lead to divisiveness among other employees (Iqbal " Haider 4). The manager acts as a neutral person in the company in the leadership hierarchy. In the case of the construction task, as a manager, I will base on outsourcing contractors for a unique project for the company.

Important decisions in a company

Autocratic leadership model influences the important decisions in a company. In the matters requiring quick response and attention, I will use the autocratic leadership strategy to avoid delay. Consulting on other company members for solutions may take time and put the company at risk for development. Arguably, public consultation on the other members and stakeholders for decision-making takes time due to the different opinions from the other parties (Khan 90). A company that requires important and quick decisions on concrete issues, for example, the financial decisions needs individual efforts. The measure of managerial qualities depends on how the managers act on the critical matters that affect their workplace. To earn high pedigree as a manager, I will act individually on making decisions on matters that require urgency.

Setting up rules in the company

Autocratic leadership applies to make the rules that govern the company. Collective opinions on the making of rules may conflict and promote divisiveness in the company. Members will have different opinions on the setting of the rules and regulations that may suit them depending on their specific needs. On top of that, employees will require some special treatment in the consultation of the set of rules. To promote unity in the company, I will deploy the autocratic leadership in setting up rules that will require practice from all the employees. Managerial rules in the company specify how the company should run its activities to achieve the goal that is high productivity.

Downfall of autocratic leadership

The downfall of the autocratic leadership models is that it discourages individuals input. The members of the management team feel isolated in the important issues that require decision-making. Autocratic leadership overlooks the qualities of other members of the management team infringing their working morale. People feel happy when their contributions steer their workplace too high performance. Also, people improve their pedigree in management when their ideas contribute to the development of a company.

Democratic Leadership

Democratic leadership requires collective opinions from all the associates in the company. The management team in the leadership protocol contributes to every aspect of decision making in the company. There is consultation before acting on making decisions on matters that require special attention for implementation (Patapan 79). The management team headed by a manager gives the different opinions regarding the raised issue. Democratic leadership increases engagement from the group members even if the manager is the one who makes the final decision for the company.

Diverse management qualities

Democratic leadership models ensure every person displays his or her management qualities. Every member of the management team possesses different qualities in the decision-making process (Cunningham, Jennifer, Salomon " Noreen). In the critical issues that require attention, for instance, the firing of some employees in the company. Matters concerning hiring and firing decisions require collective opinions from the other parties to know what they think about the issue. The firing of employees depends on their discipline and the performance in their assigned posts. In the case of the indiscipline matters from an employee who is the best performer in the company requires brave decision considering the performance of the company. Opinions from the management team will help me as a manager to make a decision that best suits the company.

Increased commitment from subordinates

Democratic leadership model increases the commitment of the subordinate members in the management (Patapan 85). Every member of the management will strive to ensure their efforts counts on the performance of the company. The making of decisions for a company becomes easy when the subordinates increase their commitment to the company. The decagons from the other management members in the leadership hierarchy are precise since everyone feels inclusive. On top of that, the company will benefit from the diverse opinions of the members to reach the targets and goals of the company. Sharing of ideas in the company will enhance the spirit of teamwork that is key to the success of a company (Khan 89).

Promotion of innovation and creativity

Democratic leadership model promotes the innovation process in the productivity of a company. The sharing of ideas exercised through democratic leadership model gives a company a unique flair in the product development and production process. The innovation process helps build a strong vision of a company because of the commitment of everyone included in the company leadership model (Patapan 83). Innovation increases the likelihood of a company to be successful because of diverse options in improving the productivity courtesy of the different people’s opinions.

Slowness in decision-making

The disadvantage of deploying the democratic leadership is the slowness in decision-making. Matters that require quick response may delay because of consultation with other members of the company. The speed in the making of decisions decides the direction of the company to avoid the crisis. Company’s operations require quick decisions to maintain the momentum and competitive status with other companies. In the event of a manufacturing company, prolonged periods of decision making on deciding on the replacement of spoiled machines slow down the process.

Conclusion

Decision making in a company is vital in running of the operations. Autocratic leadership influences fast decision making for the company but only dwells on individual efforts. My final thoughts on the leadership models in the company I will consider democratic leadership model. The diversity of thoughts is important in steering the company to greater heights. The purpose of having the management team is to ensure that each member’s contribution matters in the productivity and improvement of the company. In addition to that, democratic leadership breeds innovation and creativity that makes a company unique and outstanding from the rest.
