Fashion as a Way of Creative Expression

Fashion is a type of creative expression (McRobbie 14). People may use fashion to convey their moods, times, activities, professions, or some other aspect. Fashion may also reveal a person's cultural background. The way a person dresses and the kind of fashion to which he or she is strongly associated allows you to get a glimpse of the person's cultural history. Fashion is a way to express yourself without using phrases or actions. Fashion speaks for itself, and anyone noticing a person's fashionable attire would send a message to anyone watching him or her.

Artistic Representation of Fashion and Culture

Figure four is a work of art by Gothic and Goth artists from the early nineteenth century. The artwork is a reflection of how fashion shows the culture an individual is inclined in. The gowns in the art piece show nobility. From the piece, one can note that the women who wore such dresses liked high feelings and preferred to look "decent." One of the gowns also shows that people of this culture had a love for environment and nature. In this period, the exhibit shows that people were passionate about nature and things that had to do with it. Romance is a natural element, and the pieces also show that people then were more of romantics and imaginative (McRobbie 45). These works are still an inspiration to the fashion world of today and can be traced to the royal family and also occasions such as ballroom dancing where emotions are profoundly manifested.

Fashion as a Form of Personal Expression

Exhibit on figure 1 is a piece by Frida Kahlo made during the 20th century. The piece was an artistic work by Frida that was driven by different factors. She felt that her body was imperfect and she needed to hide these imperfections. In this way, she was able to create a culture of her own and her own story, and she was able to feel more reassured of herself and more confident. This shows how fashion can be used to express one’s emotions on certain factors or issues. It also shows that having a particular fashion trend can make one feel more confident with them and more assured (McRobbie 89). Fashion thus influences one’s perspective about themselves and it expresses the amount of satisfaction one has for themselves.

Artistic Reflection and Creativity

Exhibit on figure 3 is an artwork by Salvatore Ferragamo of the early 20th century. It was an artwork inspired by the craftsmanship of the time and their creativity. These works by Salvatore were a reflection of the development of ideas by artisans and their ability to make unique products. Fashion can manifest the development of a community as the artistic creations in style quickly show this. The artist also appreciates the relevance of artisans in society and their contributions to the fashion world. Fashion can, in this case, be used as a way of showing importance to a person or a group of individuals and express their creativity to others.

Fashion as a Reflection of Society

Globalization and the development of the industrial sector led to a change in fashion ways, especially for women. This is because it became necessary for women to put on lighter clothes as compared to the ones they previously wore since they were engaging in robust activities which needed more comfortable clothes. This led to the introduction of female trousers. Exhibit ten is an artistic piece of a modern-day trouser that women wear when taking part in various activities. It is a piece by Alexander McQueen of 1999 that was highly appreciated for its modernized style. The trousers also differ depending on the occasion for wearing it. It could be jeans trousers, a khaki trouser, a formal trouser or any other kind of trouser. The difference in dissimilarity in trousers elaborates variation within society. It elaborates the difference in class, the difference in nature of work, difference in specialization, the variance of occasion, and many other aspects of life. Fashion can thus show us different factors of our society (McRobbie 67).

The Essence of Fashion as a Tool of Expression

It is important to learn that fashion is an element of art and just like other forms of art; it is a means of expression, and anyone observing a distinct fashion sense can be able to send a particular message either personal or as a reflection of a society or community, emotional, cultural, and any other message. The exhibits have elaborated the essence of fashion as a tool of expression.
