Analysis of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

In life, we are guided by fiction and reality.

This implies that we must accept the reality and learn how to cope with it as we are living. Also, fiction plays an important role in the life of an individual as well. It is because some of the things can be imagined and be used to create up situations that may end up becoming a reality at the end. Lack of paternal and maternal care can be quite challenging to the life of an individual particularly at a very tender age like that of shelly. This usually affects her later stages of life.

Evaluation of the Author

The critique that I read was on the topic "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: Science, Science Fiction, or Autobiography?" This was authored by Sherry Ginn of the Wingate University. Ginn went to the University of South Carolina where she pursued her masters in General Experimental Psychology and later advanced and did a PhD in the same area and university as well. She directs the women study program at that Wingate University and has got a handful affiliations with other groups and institutions across the region. Due to the many books that she has authored and the experience that she holds, she has been accorded the title of a professor. Her contribution in the fiction and science world cannot be undermined and thus, she plays a significant role in this area of study. She has been a lecturer at the Wingate University since 1999-2006 where she acted as the head of human studies. Currently, Ginn is an instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. In addition, she plays other roles like in other associations like those of Neurosciences that mainly deal with issues concerning history. In her career, Ginn has authored numerous articles on various topics mostly in the area of brain science. Currently, the author has diversified her works and now she works the convergence of the pop culture and the relationship it has with neuroscience.

Find the thesis of the article

Most particularly we will examine how Shelley's lack of maternal and paternal care led her to conceive of her Creature. The author wants to make it clear about the monster and issues relating to the fictional character that created a creature through an experiment that is considered to be unorthodox.

Evaluate the Thesis

The thesis explains the plight that Shelly went through after the death of her parents. This can be seen in the readings where the author narrates how Shelly used to visit the graves at her young age. Further, the thesis explains more about the world of fiction as it is represented in the text. For instance, the author explains about Victor Frankenstein when he joined university and was able to create a dead person by joining parts after he felt that he was obsessed with life.

Evaluate the Support

In the evaluation of the materials that the author utilises in the text, it shows that there is sufficient research on the issues because of the diverse information that the article is rich in. Am in support of the thesis because it relates to the daily life and reflects on the issues and problems that human being goes through. For instance, we can see that the author has utilized numerous references that range from art images and books like The Modern Prometheus to reference the work. What makes the references valid is that they are from different authors and thus, they provide a wide range of information. Also, the use of this numerous references avoids issues concerning biases in a research hence makes it valid. The author has used the references well in order to achieve her goal in the paper.

Another critique from the text

Another critique from the text is that the article only focuses on science and fiction. This makes it difficult for the author to acknowledge reality in life which is very important. Fiction can be compared with imaginations but not real life. Most fictions things cannot be confirmed, and thus they remain a dilemma in our lives. This critique does not support the thesis since it talks about fiction while the thesis points out issues concerning reality in life.

Conclusion

In summary, the paper tries to examine both reality and fiction in life. The essence of the author is to critique the works of Shelly by trying to show some of the areas that she went wrong and seconding areas that she feels the author hit the point. In the thesis, she outlines the life of shelly and how she lacked both paternal and maternal love and care because of the death of her parents. Also, the author goes to create a relationship with fiction life and the imaginations and perceptions that are created in the minds of the people.
