Tally Youngblood
Tally Youngblood is not a Pretty Girl. She has a few ugliness issues and is determined to keep her ugliness to herself. But first, she must find out who Shay is. Fortunately, she has some clues, and she's not far behind.
Shay
As a child, Shay resisted the stigma of being ugly, thinking herself a rebel. She thought she was beautiful and didn't want to be called ugly. Later, she discovered that society had been playing a cruel joke on her and ran off to Smoke. Like Tally, she was a prankster, always pulling pranks on people. As an adult, she's changed the way people view literacy and beauty.
David
David's ugliness is a source of great embarrassment for his wife, Tally. She has a distorted view of her own beauty, believing that she is less beautiful than David. When David calls her beautiful, Tally is overcome with emotion and lets go of her guard. When David kisses her, she stops noticing her imperfections and becomes more open-minded.
Peris
In Peris Uglies, the main character is Tally Youngblood, who lives outside the Pretty Town in a village known as Uglyville. Tally has been waiting months to have cosmetic surgery, and she thinks it will make her feel better.
Dr. Cable
In the first book of the Uglies series, Tally Youngblood is the protagonist and wants to become Pretty. However, she is blackmailed into becoming The Mole for Dr. Cable. In the process, she discovers that the operation will damage her brain. During the course of the book, she also betrays her crush's father, the Smoke, and Dr. Cable.
Shay's father
Shay's father was an engineer, a safety engineer for the DuPont company during World War II. He was transferred to Hanford, Washington, where he helped build a plant that would produce plutonium for the atomic bomb. Shay's father was a funny man who would often play tricks on people. He also used to play magic tricks. After the war, Shay's father went back to the printing business, and his mother returned to the restaurant.

The premise of the show is that Dr. Cable is a genius at making plans and plotting events. He also has a knack for coming up with ideas quickly, making a plan in a matter of seconds. Throughout the series, Dr. Cable's relationship with Tally is a source of intrigue and excitement.
