Success in life requires determination and devotion in all undertakings. I was born and bred in a political family in which my grandmother served as the National Leader of China. Currently, my grandmother is retired though her political career gave me the impetus to follow in the footsteps since I was in junior school. As a young person, most people told me that only men are considered to be great leaders all over the world. However, I assert that there are successful women such as Margaret Thatcher, Angela Merkel, and my grandmother who have ventured in leadership positions. Consequently, the abilities and visions have made to believe that men and women are equal and an attempt to draw distinctions is motivated by chauvinistic and stereotypic ideas. Of the three women leaders named above, I was most attracted by Margaret Thatcher’s life. In fact, Margaret Thatcher did not become politician immediately after she graduated from college. Instead, she worked in a bank for a few years and this experience helped to build networks and wealth for future campaigns. Therefore, I would like to follow in her steps. Before achieving my ultimate goal of being a politician, I intend to work in a business-related field.
Coincidentally, when I was in high school, two of my friends showed great interest in computer science and programmed a hearing test app. However, the duo did not know how to advertise the app because they are only knowledgeable about technologies. Therefore, I volunteered to help them publicize the app to clinics in town and school. Although I do not know much about programming, I have considerable experience in leadership and marketing. After months of effort, the app became well-known in the community and won UCLA Code for Mission Award. My friends realized they could not succeed without my elaborate marketing strategies. No matter how good the app is, if nobody knows it, the two friends would have not managed to gain the recognition. Inspired by my parents who established a technology company twenty years ago and has been which cooperates with Fudan University in Shanghai, China, I came up with an idea of creating a startup after we all graduated from college while they make some apps during spare time in high school. Our idea was fully supported by my parents who applied for a college and also offered us with financial support and business networks. With this idea in mind, I applied for a college and decided to major in business as well as data science. In other words, I realize that having a tech startup even though I will not be in charge of solving technical problems, I need to understand some of the concepts in order to better cooperate with my friends and advertise the products. As an operation person, I must learn how to manage the team and attract people to buy the apps. Furthermore, I can learn the essential principles and techniques for operating a company by acquiring a business degree. Starting a business with my friends is the short-term goal after graduating from college. Yet, this goal is the foundation of becoming a politician someday and proves that women can do what men can accomplish as well.
