The Importance of Diversity in the Workplace

In the contemporary world, diversity has encroached to be an essential component of the society.  As time passes, people have become more diverse and appreciates its existence. The act results in new ideas and perspectives introduced into individuals' lives. Diversity is the act of people from different religions, organization, sexes, races, nationalities or community coming together for purposes of attaining a particular goal. Diversity has frequently not been received well. However, more people do embrace ideas from others in the course of interaction (Mayhew). It is a developing organ of the society. The act has led many to ask themselves why one should adopt the others ideas despite their being right.


In the workplace, diversity creates an environment of respect for the employees. It has enabled employees to realize the strengths and skills of the different individuals. Indeed, this is because in the workplace people have different skills and experience thus in the course of interaction each learns from the other. Further, diversity is essential in conflicts resolutions and scenarios (Mayhew). It thrives well where mutual respect is needed for a healthy conclusion. Workplace diversity helps guarantee a company survival in the increasingly dynamic world where the market is composed of people from diverse backgrounds.


Diversity in the workplace is essential for employees as well a firm. It aids in creating an excellent reputation for the business resulting in escalating profits and opportunities for workers. Companies employing individuals from different diversity attains this aspect. A company is known for the ethics it possesses and embraces following recruitment of people with diverse talents thus appealing to a significant number of qualified applicants (Mayhew). Due to it, customer loyalty is increased because they tend to do business with organizations whose enterprises are socially dependable.


Diversity influences job promotion. Workplace diversity is remarkable because it enables an organization to reach foreign markets and promote their business. The attractiveness of the global markets establishes more opportunities for employees’ growth. For instance, openings for promotions and employee development are achieved. Additionally, a universal marketplace gives opportunities for workers with varying multicultural knowledge and language skills to create international profit centers (Mayhew). Increased exposure is also as a result of diversity. Diversity in the workplace presents more experience to workers from unique backgrounds and cultures. The workers get ideas and skills from the co-workers who have different work styles and attitudes.


In a school environment, diversity directly impacts the performance of students. A school consisting of a diverse group of students attracts the appreciation that all the people are distinctive in their way. The difference could include cultural background, personality, reading and learning level, and talent abilities (GreatSchools Staff). Students with a diverse knowledge tend to perform better than those who do not. It is so because these students learn from each other through characters and sharing of ideas (Thomas).  Also, all students feel valued. No one is left out during the learning process, and they are appreciated equally. The practice creates a good environment for learning. When the students value diversity, they acknowledge and abide by the fact that people are different and that the variation promotes daily education.


A school with students from diverse backgrounds creates a sense of security to everyone (GreatSchools Staff). Learners develop a feeling of belonging by appreciating each other's abilities and weaknesses. Further, diversity eliminates the feeling of loneliness because no one is treated based on where he or she originates. Indeed, this is achieved by students learning each other's origins and appreciating them (Thomas). The act of encouraging and helping each other is a product of diversity. Diversity has also played a key role in bringing about globalization. Undoubtedly, this is because people have been able to learn and appreciate cultures of different countries as well as their way of life.
