High school group project
In high school, we were instructed to form groups of five people each. In these groups, we were supposed to select a problem within the school compound and find a solution, which we would present in class. We chose the face-to-face collaboration method since we were friends and often spent time together. The collaboration method we selected was useful especially for the brainstorming phase of the project because we would analyze ideas as we walked around. However, since we were friends, most members were not serious as most of our meetings would end up in jokes and games. This made us waste a lot of time which resulted in a failed assignment. If we were to start the project from scratch, we would combine different collaborative methods for better results. One way would be to reduce our face-to-face meetings and allow for the layered collaborative method.
I have been on a team with a negative contributor severally. Their negative contribution resulted from their late attendance of meetings. There are times when they would show up in the last five minutes of the meeting. Other times, they would not make an appearance at all. We would be forced to continue with the group work assuming that even though absent, they had completed their tasks. It was until the day of compilation that they said that they were unable to complete their part since they didn't understand instructions. This would have been avoided if the student had shown up to the meetings and asked for clarification on the instructions. Other ways that may make on a negative contributor include noise making during sessions, failure to make contributions, and rudeness towards other members. All these are distractions which prevent a group from achieving its goals.
