Federal health standards and regulations
Federal health standards are in place to provide for the management of community health centres. Additional, the government also has several federal regulations that provide a criterion on how public health centres can receive state funding. However, through time some institutions have been found to be lacking behind and failing to achieve the provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that establishes a basis for affordable healthcare for all citizens. The research study is set to be a critical analysis of how the legislation has been implemented in the United States. The objective is to establish if the Act has improved access, lowered cost, and made quality health care available to all citizens.
Rhetorical Situation
Patient-centred medical homes are the centre of the discussion; these institutions provide for a significant number of citizens each and every day it is, therefore, imperative that their systems are improved to ensure affordable and universal healthcare. The debate takes place during a United States annual Healthcare conference. The audience includes stakeholders from the healthcare sector and government representatives. By virtue, health institutions have an obligation to ensure that they abide by the provisions of the Act especially if they want to secure federal funding. Health insurance is a contributor to the problem at hand. Insurance providers are also invited to provide their perspective on matters that concern them. The audience seems interested in taking part in the discussion. Different representatives take turns raising pertinent issues. From their input and feedback through the debate, it appears that most medical practitioners are not fully aware of their duties and responsibilities in regards to compliance with the PPAC (2010). Their participation is, nonetheless, civil as critical topics are being raised and addressed.
Sources
The research will utilize work by two reputable authors namely Terry McGeeny and Peter Reid Kongstvedt. McGeeny has vast experience in healthcare services and programs as he is a board-certified physician who has been in the sector for quite some time. According to McGeeny (2008), the success of the PCMH can be achieved through teamwork whereby healthcare practitioners have a shared responsibility for improving health outcomes. On the other hand, Kongstvedt is also an authoritative author who writes that a major setback in the establishment of quality healthcare systems is the lack of privacy given that the managed care companies struggle to make their services better through accessing shared medical information on covered patients (Kongstvedt 111). Their input on the subject of the study will contribute significantly to the development of improvement strategies.
Conclusion and Recommendations
The current Patient-Centred Medical Home model has a chance of eradicating the present issues faced in the healthcare system. However, in order for it to achieve its purpose, there are key areas that need to be enhanced. The research study will identify some corrective measures that will see better patient compliance and more healthcare effectiveness. Implementation of those strategies and the participation of critical stakeholders will ensure the attainment of quality, affordable, and universal healthcare in the country.
